Absolutely disgraceful scenes. This was a throwback to Adolf Hitler's early attempt to seize power in the Beer Hall Putsch. He must surely now face serious consequences for his actions.

Trump has always been unhinged. A poorly educated complete fantasist with a huge ego who doesn't like to be told what to do or that he's wrong and gets his own way by bullying and intimidating people. But he, through Steve Bannon, managed to tap into some peoples mistrust of government and mainstream media to push what he wanted. I think Bannon and others thought they could control him and direct him, without realising its his way or no way, which is why so many were sacked for disagreeing with him. And as he whipped up the mob to support him it meant he could do what he wanted because his supporters would go after anyone he turned on. The really terrifying thing is how close he came to winning, only a few hundred thousand votes in key states, despite having over 7 million less in the popular vote. If he'd won, I'd bet he'd try to change the constitution so he could stay in power instead of only doing 2 terms, and the Trump loyalists would back him to do it.
What happens next is anyone's guess, too many Republicans have backed him, either as true believers, out of political expediency or from fear of upsetting his supporters. Its going to be a long time before this is healed, if it ever is.

Trump has surpassed all expectations, possibly the most disliked person on earth.

I'm absolutely sure that Mr Trump and the police would've acted no differently if this was hundreds of BLM protesters storming the Capitol building <laugh>

While this was going on I noticed the Democrats won both the Georgia Senate seats with a combined majority of well over 100,000 votes. This was way more than the 11,000 majority of the presidential election. I wonder who Trump blames for this?

Not great scenes but I wouldn't be calling a bunch of bellends shouting at a building a coup mind, think that's a bit hyperbole. Coups are what the CIA got up to in Latin and South America and that took a lot more planning and resources than Trump can get his hands on.

A group of thugs forcing their way into the place where elected officials are conducting business with the sole aim of trying to reverse a democratic election...I would call that a coup. Yes, America has its hands dirty from examples of which you mentioned, but this is it coming home for them. To make it worse, it was organised/fuelled by a sitting President...he should go to Jail...if he doesn't, i'm not sure what he would have to do to get jail time

We think ( well a lot of us do) Bonko is a mistake, not up to the job of handling Covid

How on earth then do you classify a Trump, an evil catastrophe...?

Doddering old Biden is going to look great compared to the fat baby.

Behave man. A few beardy loons waving flags and shouting at a building isn't going to achieve that. It might cause a bit of disruption but it's nowhere near a takeover of the entire country. If on the other hand they had the backing of the military, or even if the military itself had occupied Capitol Hill, declared martial law, disbandedd congress and implemented a junta style dictatorship, I'd say then it's coup time. Huge difference.

The sad thing is that so many idiots still support him. I’m in Texas at the moment. There are trucks driving around with Trump flags flying. I drove from North Carolina to Texas. Support for him proudly shown in NC, Tennessee, Arkansas too. It really is like an enormous cult. How can so many be influenced by such stupid man?

Trump has requested the backing of the military but was turned down. This was what I hope his final attempt to overturn a fair election before he faces justice.

Why would the military listen to him, they're not in the business of taking over their own country. Trump's just a petulant child who is so used to getting his own way and being surrounded by 'yes sir, you're great sir' people has led to him being completely unable to process any sort of opposition to him. That's what I saw on Capitol Hill, a bunch of bairns with a pet lip who are too emotionally immature to handle not getting their own way. That is not a coup, not by any stretch of the imagination. They didn't even hang around after it got dark, hardly manning the barricades.

This lad looks like he's been taking tips from Star Lord and has offered the cops out in a dance off. A novel and less bloody way to achieve a coup.

They didn't, but he did ask for military intervention and was turned down. This is not a man who is right in the head and will try anything. We are talking about a bloke who told a worldwide audience that injecting bleach and direct sunlight inside people's lungs might be a good idea to kill Covid 19 virus.

The military weren't involved though, no matter what Trump asked for. The people actually involved were a bunch of folk shouting at a building and waving flags until it went dark, with a few of those getting a bit radge. It's over exaggeration being described in the media as an attempted coup. By all means give Trump **** for being crap but don't make things out to be what they aren't, just lose credibility doing that imo.
