Plenty of people calling for Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump as unfit for office.
Again, great, but it doesn’t matter. Too little, too late. They are partway down a dark and dangerous path. Republicans created a king and the best they can do now is create a martyr.
There has to be a two-party system, of a sort, for the next while. But it can't be Democrats and Republicans, or liberal and conservative. It's pro-democracy and pro-coup, and the Republicans who have some passing interest in democracy (and there are some) have to understand that, and they need to work with the Democrats in order to put a stop to this. The best way to make that happen? Form a new conservative party. Use it to bleed the fascist elements of the GOP dry, even if it means being largely out of power. Democracy demands it.
That’s what I mean. This has to draw the line in the sand for the GOP. There’s surely now going to be the process of that split. The party of Lincoln and the party of Trump, Q and sedition.
Yeah. That's why I'm glad this happened, with minimal loss of life (one woman was shot and killed, apparently as they tried to break down a door to access the floor where lawmakers were sheltering). There can be no misconceptions of what the sides are anymore, and there can be no middle ground. Speaking of...staff of the Republican leader in the House, who has done as much as anyone beyond Trump to foment this, starting to push back. Many years too late, but...
It's worth noting, at this moment, that there's a second half to impeachment. The first is removal from office: a second vote is then held to permanently bar the individual from holding public office. That's why, while it might seem a little silly to oust Trump now (and not years ago, when it should have happened), it's still extremely important that he be impeached. He cannot again be allowed to run for office, not after this.
For 12 hours, for inciting large-scale civil disorder and violence. Have warned he faces a permanent ban too. It's a start.
https://www.nam.org/manufacturers-c...t-capitol-11628/?stream=series-press-releases Corporations demanding Trump be removed from office is the twist I was never expecting. Karl Racine, the DC attorney general is on CNN now calling for 25th amendment.
So trial by mutual combat is a real-ass law in a couple of American states (Washington and Texas) whereby if two parties agree, they can fight it out in public to decide a winner. A Seattle-based “superhero” called Phoenix Jones (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Jones) used it to go out on the weekends beating up assholes who he encountered causing trouble. He was also 7-2 as an MMA fighter so would routinely **** these people up until police arrived and took them away. Aside from the hilarious image of 76-year-old sex offender Rudy Guliani defending his master’s honour in hand to hand combat (against who exactly? Biden?) It’s a nonsense statement. This 2020 expansion pack has been well worth the money so far.
Rudy's not right in the head, and I don't mean that as a pejorative. His brain done broke. Rather than prison, a padded cell and Thorazine drip seems fine.
Dear everyone in the media/GOP calling this a dark day in American democracy, Nah. The last four years (longer than that, really) were the dark days in American democracy. This is just the payoff. Today's a very good day in American democracy, because you just got to see that all of the people that had been dismissed as doomsayers were totally right about what Trump would eventually cause, and democracy is still standing. For now! Now the only question is: are you gonna do something about it? Because the two options now are democracy or Trumpism. Time to stand and be counted, motherfuckers.
