I’m sure I can’t be the only one on this forum who was lucky enough to be taken to see Gerry starring in Aladdin at Southampton Gaumont in the early 60’s. At the end of the panto, he was joined by the Pacemakers for a full set of their hits, complete with screaming girl accompaniment from the crowd. An incredible experience for a lad like me, and which helped set me on the path of loving music in all its myriad forms, but especially live. So thanks for those memories Gerry, and RIP

Different times for sure! Gerry and the Pacemakers were the first artists ever to have their first three singles go straight to no. 1, which wasn’t repeated until Frankie Goes To Hollywood 20-odd years later. Even their Epstein stablemates the Beatles didn’t achieve that accolade. Gerry was an authentic superstar, and yet he did panto! In Southampton!
