Not me Chilco, I've not knowingly had it and had a neg test a few months back when I had a bit of a temperature for a day or two
Yes, was Ketchup I was thinking of (though obviously glad you’re getting better Kaito, I didn’t realise you had it).
I don't see this as a race at all. The sad reality is that we are only as strong as the weakest country in dealing with Coronavirus. If Europe does not sort it out, it will have consequences for the UK. Quite interesting to learn that Chris Witty has suggested that there will still be measures in place next winter which is extremely depressing. When the outbreak first materialised it was felt that we would be in control by September yet as the situation became worse, this was stretched towards Christmas. Having now gone beyond this point and with a vaccine on board, the recent predictions have the newest lockdown concluding between the middle of February or in to March. Witty's disclosure yesterday is concerning because you wonder just how much longer we can put up with restrictions and how accurate the Govt and it's advisors are with their assessments. Granted that this was something of an unknown, I think you can cut them some slack with their initial appraisal yet the repeated U-turns made by this Govt underscore for me the fact that they do not have a clue. The suggestion that if the number of people having the vaccine exceeds the number of infections, the R-rate will go down seems sensible . However, given that the UK Govt has failed to control things within it's own borders, you wonder what will happen to us if our neighbours in Europe are disorganised. I have been surprised by the inefficiencies in rolling out the vaccine in France and perhaps more so by the fact that the country is historically hostile to vaccines. This was something I had not appreciated. The fact that Hancock has singled out problems in South Africa as more worrying than what is going on in Europe concerns me too. This is either because there is recognition at how bad the situation is in the UK with the "English" strain in comparison with what is happening across the Channel or because the scientists know something about the South African version that is particularly dangerous. All in all, recent weeks have underscored the fact that this problem needs to be dealt with internationally and not on a nation-by-nation basis. Of course, the other "issue" regarding the "English" strain is how other countries are perceiving our inability to mange this. The Chinese rightly received a lot of opprobrium for their failures 12 months ago and I have been surprised that we have not received the same level of criticism for "our" strain which I think is symptomatic of our Govt's failings. We are exceptional at recognising the differences in the DNA yet our failure to contain this has been a further stain on this government. Staggered that Sturgeon has not made more of this, to be honest but Boris' failings are something that will effect many countries beyond our borders. Boris was too slow out of the blocks, not for the first time. Granted he has a challenging job yet a National Coalition would have managed this far better. In fact, it would have been better if Johnson had deferred to Sturgeon who had consistently had a better finger on the pulse with this crisis. The Scots must be furious that the new strain that originated in Kent was not managed better by earlier lockdowns. I don't feel this would have prevented the problem but it would have delayed the impacts until later.
Things not going to well here. https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/...alth-minister-says-of-dutch-vaccine-strategy/ "The Netherlands could have started vaccinating people against coronavirus earlier but was not agile enough when decisions were taken in November, health minister Hugo de Jonge has said, ahead of a parliamentary debate on vaccination strategy." "MPs are due to debate the new strategy on Tuesday with opposition MPs describing the government’s approach as chaotic and confusing." Now where have we heard that before? There's this to. https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/...se-test-results-at-zurich-airport-in-custody/ Every country has it's share of arrogant entitled covidiots. Hope she and others doing similar are named and shamed.
When I mentioned the German MEP's comment I wasn't suggesting it's a race....we want everyone to be safe around the world....I mentioned it because others had posted how stupid we were not to join the EU vaccine purchase system. Just a question of balancing things out.
Another worry is that once people have been vaccinated they will revert to pre-pandemic behavioural norms, in terms of social gatherings, not wearing masks, and so forth. This would be extremely dangerous, as it is vital to remember that the vaccine, while stopping you getting sick from the virus, does not prevent infection. You can still carry and spread the virus even after vaccination, so mask-wearing, social distancing, hand-sanitising, and all the other measures will have to continue for months and months, until the majority of people across the whole world have been rendered safe. Only then will be able to say we have defeated this scourge.
Don't think we'll defeat it, but look forward to when we can manage it. After all, we haven't beaten flu....which still kills some people....but we don't live in fear of it. The one good thing to come out of this is that vaccine research has come on in leaps and bounds....they believe that the mRNA vaccines will be able to go into rapid production as soon as any new viral threats are detected. You never know we may finally beat the common cold
I mentioned it before; one thing this virus has shown me is that humans working together, regardless of race, creed, location, sexual orientation etc can achieve great things. As John Lennon once said, "Imagine"
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....fends-controversial-covid-posters-4852797.amp Whetherspoons spreading Covid denial propaganda. Time to bring those glorified toilets down. Too much to hope we see Tim Martin being dragged across the ground and chucked in the back of a police car sometime soon? Note - Feeling a bit charged about this topic after the GFs ward at SGH was invaded by a ‘freelance journalist’ - who took pictures of staff at work and trollies in the corridors then put them on FB claiming Covid was a lie, alarmingly was hitting over 1000 shares. She had also done the same at QA and St Richards in Chichester. There should be zero tolerance for these ‘people’ imo.
We certainly have no monopoly on inefficiency in this country. Or, to be fair, on unpreparedness: this is a pretty unprecedented set of circumstances.
Totally, and that is the last time in go in one of their establishments for a full English until March at the earliest.
I’m now wondering if i got the wrong end of the stick. I didnt even bother clicking the link, just thought it was something about that ****wit who runs those ****ty pubs with greasy food in them.
