Oh good, another reason to be irritated about pissing away four points last month...

I don't see any reason why Lampard would have any skills at all in choosing players to buy. I also don't think it's possible for any manager to know his best eleven, there are bound to be several positions where there are two very similar choices....
That Chelsea can spend well over 200m and not be discernibly better is only mildly surprising. You can select two perfectly good teams from the Chelsea squad, both of which should be in the top 6 but I don't think they have any world class players any more.

I think Lampard’s lucky he’s a club legend otherwise he’d have been sacked already. That affinity with the club has bought him extra time. Needs to get some results in the league very quickly though otherwise he won’t see the end of Feb I’d imagine because Roman won’t be that patient.

Can’t spend £230m in a window then preach that the players need time. £80m/ £50m/ £30m players are expected to hit the ground running immediately, it’s why clubs pay the big bucks.

Been very surprised at how utter **** Havertz has been though and Werner’s comments about finding it difficult have been music to my ears as I thought he’d be another to do well.

Yoy could say the same for every team. Everyone has thrown away points and lost/drew games you could argue they should have won. This season is gonna be a close one by the looks of it.

His interview after the City game would concern me if I was Roman. I agree I think he will be lucky to last another couple of months unless they go on a good run

Regardless of all that, win the game in hand and it’s 1 point behind Liverpool. Any of us would have taken that before the season started

Or be a point ahead of them if we bothered to compete for 60+ minutes against Palace

60% of the PL is 17 games in, and only one is barely
scraping above the 2 pts per game level.

As I said the other day, IMHO a few things this season
will be settled by GD and not pts.

Is Abramovich likely to be a better judge of a player than than the man he has appointed to be his head coach? I realise that he employs an army of scouts to do the leg work but its still a case that if the head coach doesn't like the look of a new player he is likely to pick the player that he does like who has served him well before.

As for best teams I am fairly sure the Klopp knows his best side and picks it frequently when they are all available. I will admit the the game is more of a squadgame now and the days of a Villa winning the league and using about 14 players is not likely to be repeated, but I think that most managers have a pretty good idea of their favoured starting 11 and first 3 subs.

But then they’ve had games where they shouldn’t have drew or lost too

It's not the Palace or Wolves game that I consider so much as dropped points.
West H 3-0 with minutes to go and Newcastle penalty which would not be given according to new rules. Every time I see the ball hit a defenders hand in the area and no penalty given it annoys me.
Those are the 4 points that are costing us.

Which is still different from willingly surrendering midfield for 60+ minutes while expecting our defence to not make a single mistake

Why not try and kill the game off with a second goal early in the second half?
We dropped two points against West Scam by sitting back for far too long instead of trying to take the game to them, made worse by how it was clear our right flanks was being targeted but we did nothing about it - which was especially bad considering it was a derby (for them, anyway...) yet Lamela wasn't even in the squad, and he's the exact player we needed in that match

I get what you’re saying but every team and every manager has made mistakes this season and that’s why the league is so tight.

I just hope Spurs learn from these moments and games and if they do then there is a chance of success because no team so far has been consistent

Gosh. With top teams losing games Man U only need a few more penalties to win the league.

It's the truth. Plus don't forget the redrawing of the width of the football field when they're playing long forward passes like they did against the Spammers. Frankly, no matter how well we play, there is nothing we can do if the authorities are determined to hand games to ManU. They can all see the massive discrepancy in the number of penalties ManU get, yet we regularly get discussion about Kane being a diver. It doesn't help of course that the media don't want to discuss it, because all you hear is how they've turned it around, as if they've done it by graft, skill and merit instead of where the points have actually come from.
