We create more chances when Danny plays purely through his speedness of thought, some of his flick ons, lay offs and first time passes were a joy to behold. His first time finish for the goal was World class.
I agree with Theo fouling Milner, but bollocks to the rest. Even Carragher didn’t think it was a penalty! They really are above diamonds in the most precious things in the world league.
All those things you mention he does are ace, but the best thing he does (or maybe most important) is he buys us time. When it goes to him, he holds it up 90% of the time and when under the cosh, that is priceless.
Part of the reason why I was so pessimistic before kick off last night was no Adams. I was convinced we would really badly miss his hold up play that he's so good at.
Just watched the highlights and seen Ralph’s reaction to the result in more detail. So emotional and great that he shows how much it means to him. Every player put in a very good shift. Armstrong seemed to be back to his best, and the way he pushed Henderson back at the free kick, to help keep Ings onside, was either fluke or genius. Diallo didn’t look out of place. The back four threw their bodies on the line. Brave decision by Ralph to throw youngsters on, at the death, rather than push Ings and Theo to, or beyond, their physical limits. Thanks also to Liverpool who seemed to be looking for the “perfect” goal, trying to walk the ball into the net, instead of trying to lash it in and maybe get a deflection in a very crowded area.
Which is why I used to get annoyed when previous managers always took Tadic off, when we were backs to the wall. Even if the hold up play doesn’t lead to a chance, it buys the defence time to recover it’s shape.
Absofeckinglutely..... and believe it or not, one of the reasons I’d stick up for Fabrice Fernandes too. He might have gone round in three circles, but if we’d been under the cosh, that helped.
He is very good at that and probably BD more strength than Danny, yet Danny has that extra thing in that he usually gets the touch into an area that gives him time and space. Adams (who is excellent) more often than not uses his strength. Danny’s way is smarter.
Id be giving Diallo a bit more than “didn’t look out of place” - I thought he was our best player first half. He did fade or tire a little in the second half yet was still on it. He’s a player.
Give him more minutes, let him bulk up a bit , and let him settle properly into the PL way and he will take over from romeu without a problem.
