I'm not a teacher btw. I just don't think they should be put at risk, being exposed to 60+ households on a daily basis without appropriate protections. And because they haven't received those protections, they've little choice but to threaten strike action.

My mum's a teaching assistant in a primary school. She's working tomorrow. She wants to work, most teaching staff do. What she's concerned about is the complete lack of PPE and social distancing guidelines in schools (especially primary schools) when she has to work in cramped classrooms with 30 kids in them. At the very least, everyone should be wearing masks in classrooms and classrooms should be 15 kids at the most.

surely teachers & assistants are free to supply their own mask & wear it??
In the same way some of my colleagues have chosen to wear a mask in a shared office environment. Or are teachers banned from wearing a mask??

My mum's academy tells teachers not to wear them in classrooms, and academies are generally quite draconian about what teachers can wear and how they style their hair etc.

    You're supplied with masks?

You're lucky. We have to share a single snood between forty of us...

tell them to wear a burka on religious ground. Sorted!

it’s ridiculous that they cannot wear masks - I did not know that. They should be free to protect themselves if they choose to do so

The masks that are generally available don't protect the wearer, so unless they're looking at medical grade stuff, it's academic.

    However:

"In primary schools where social distancing is not possible in indoor areas outside of classrooms between members of staff or visitors (for example, in staffrooms), head teachers will have the discretion to decide whether to ask staff or visitors to wear, or agree to them wearing face coverings in these circumstances. But children in primary school do not need to wear a face covering."

Rotas so less people are in a room/more social distancing is possible.

Online learning for parts of the time table (same as above).

Smaller classes, rotas etc. 30+ classrooms are outdated anyway and smaller ones are better for learning, so this should be a policy whether we're dealing with COVID or not.

Schools in Newcastle,Cumbria,Derbyshire,Birmingham and Brighton backed by councils if they want to stay shut. I suspect the Governments hand is about to be forced here. Didn't this happen in the first lockdown....

    That list is growing.

Norfolk too and Liverpool are calling for more action.

Down again 7 more places. More shrinking but marginally. 0B2A4AA7-6A95-4B4D-BE53-A81E9DB81575.jpeg
East Riding has dropped 16 more places and they’re now onto page 8 of 8 of these lists.

Calls are being made now for a full national lockdown to start tomorrow , Boris hinted that we may need it in a few weeks so Starmer has called him out saying to do it now rather than delay as (and I agree with him on this tbh) the constant delaying has made things worse not better throughout this last 9 months (9 months ... wow)

surely Rotas break the bubble principle & increasing the probability of infection as you coming into contact with more people??
That sounds utter nonsense to me.
    Can understand class sizes bit
But online?? How many kids on bransholme or Preston Road will have the equipment to get online - or are we saying poor kids don’t matter??
