The season previous to Wenger joining Arsenal is when Blackburn and one Kenny Dalglish won, wasn't it?
From 1992/93 ( PL ) Arsenal finished 10th, 4th, 12th, 5th before Wenger joined. 1 GK David Seaman 2 DF Lee Dixon 3 DF Nigel Winterburn 4 MF Patrick Vieira 5 DF Steve Bould 6 DF Tony Adams 7 MF David Platt 8 FW Ian Wright 9 MF Paul Merson 10 FW Dennis Bergkamp 11 FW Nicolas Anelka 13 GK Vince Bartram 14 DF Martin Keown No. Position Player 15 MF Ray Parlour 19 DF Remi Garde 19 FW Chris Kiwomya 22 MF Ian Selley 24 GK John Lukic 25 DF Scott Marshall 26 GK Lee Harper 27 MF Paul Shaw 28 MF Stephen Hughes 29 MF Adrian Clarke 30 DF Gavin McGowan 31 DF Matty Rose 32 FW Isaiah Rankin Thats the team he had, I am not sure who he signed though. Vieira certainly, Anelka aswell. He finished 3rd but wasnt manager from the start. A few weeks into the season Stewart Houston was sacked and wenger took over. He won the league the next season and made significant signings. Petit, Overmars, Manniger.
So Kenny inherits the backbone of Joe's team and adds his own picks to it and gets ripped(on this thread)yet Wenger gets praised for doing the same.
It was a team a bit like Tottenham is these days. Decent but not going to win the league unless someone does something major. Wenger did that.
Not really, there was a fair lull between Grahams last win and Wenger coming in. Nowhere near the continuity of Dalglish taking over from ***an anyway, not to make a valid comparison.
I would say wenger signed at least 5 players who played important parts in the first title. Anelka Overmars Petit Manninger Vieira
George Graham won the title before Wengers arrival and Wengers first title winning team/squad included many of Grahams players yes/no?
Exactly, and Wenger has been in charge for 15 years and still hasn't surpassed Kenny's number of titles won at Liverpool in his five season spell in charge. Yet apparently Wenger is some sort of world class genius and Kenny isn't a very good manager.
Ferguson (and that is not a slur - I do not recognise titles and especially when they are awarded for doing a job that you are already well paid for doing) is NOT the greatest manager in British football history - that is merely your opinion. Why get so defensive? You feel free to question the achivements of other managers so it is a matter of natural justice that others can question the achievements of your manager.
Yes but unlike dalslish there hadnt been 6 years pass between titles and a number of midtable finishes.
You continue to ignore the glaringly obvious point that Dalglish took up the very succesfull baton that was already there and continued completely in the same vein. Wenger, moving in from Japan and inheriting a squad that hadn't seen success for a few years, completely changed the way that squad played and made it succesfull. It isn't even close to being the same.
Yep. Wenger came in and transformed an Arsenal side that was an also ran into champions. He then continued to completely transform arsenal taking them to 2 further titles, a CL final, an unbeaten league season and according to some, the side playing the most beautiful football in england. However its gone to the **** bigtime.
Well err thats not the point though is it,your saying that Wengers achievement of winning a title with basically the same squad that Graham left him is something to behold yet Kenny done a similar thing at LFC and its not seen as an achievement.
