i think people need to remember its not the kids who are at a great risk of death or indeed the teachers.
its the vulnerable people they pass it on to.

and its this "im ok pull the ladder up" attitude that is allowing the disease to spread like wildfire amongst those who dont get ill making it much easier for the ones who will get ill to catch it.

this thing is only a killer to certain people and its them we should be protecting by preventing the spread at schools etc.

    apologies for stating the obvious.

So, when/if the schools close, what happens to the businesses that lose staff as they have to stay at home to look after kids? Will the school holidays get shortened so they can help the kids catch up on the education they're missing?

Schools won’t actually “close”. They never have despite what the media portrays. Remained open over Easter, Whit, Bank Holidays, etc. The kids of key workers will still be in. The most vulnerable kids will still be in.

Which kind of makes the union position more about politics than safety, and ignores the parents of the other kids, who will be behind their class mates.

Offices, shops, taxis etc all put measures in place, surely the academics can put things in place on their own initiative like most others do?

Teaching staff aren’t refusing to teach despite what the media say. They’re asking to be made more safe than the guidance currently allows. Reduce numbers in classrooms with rotas/blended learning, more PPE, etc.

The guidance doesn’t have an maximum limit on bubble numbers yet you could only have 30 at a funeral and it even allows schools to make staff to go between bubbles where cover is needed (so what’s the point in the bubble in the first place?).

    You obviously don't know academics.
To be fair, their world is so highly regulated that "trying to put things in place" is a complete waste of time because some ****er will either threaten to sue them or bring in new rules (with zero notice) that changes the goal posts.

The rule changes and lack of guidance etc aren't limited to teaching, most companies have to deal with that on a regular basis too, they just crack on with it though.

We're supposed to be all in this together.

Schools tried doing what was best for their communities - rotas, reduced timetables, blended learning, early closure for Xmas - and were threatened with legal action to remain fully open.

Those would remain open as their kids would still be in school.

The guidance for secondary schools reopening changed 3 times just 1 day after Williamson’s time in HOC.

I suspect because the authorities rate children getting an education, and try to support working parents and businesses. After all, if parents don't send their kids to school, they get fined.

They’re not trying to keep them open for education.

Well if you've got the kids there, you may as well give them something to do to help while away the hours.
