hall would have been more patient with him imo plus bobby was a better tactician and some of those games where we went looking for 4 or 5 goals and lost we'd have won under bobby.IMO Keegan wasn't even half the manager Robson was.
As an outsider looking in, I put the failure to win the league firmly at Keegans door. He tried to fix something that wasn't broken when he bought Asprilla and totally disrupted the balance of the team, and subsequently blew a twelve point lead....and the title.
Keegan bottled it. I firmly blame our relegation on Keegan, we would have stayed up under him. When he left we where ninth in the league and looking to finish mid-table again, things where looking up and the worry of relegation was no where in site. Then, he got annoyed, ran off and decided to take £1 Million off the club. The guy pretends to love us, but he couldn't care less. I hold very little respect for Keegan these days. His constant slander on ESPN doesn't help either. Shearer's been pissing me off recently too. He never backs us up, the guy's got no balls.
Just to give Newcastle supporters some idea what support is one game I attended at Roker Park there were more than 100,000 supporters turned away AFTER the gates were closed
Brilliant thread cest, certainly got some sensible debate going. I believe that Sunderland have to splash some cash to put us on the map. Some agent says to a player " hey Sunderland are interested in you" and he says "where the **** is Sunderland" We need to be recognised. Don't think it is just geographical. When I am travelling or meeting Norwegian people and they ask where I'm from I say Sunderland or Durham...they just look puzzled, so have to explain it's just south of Newcastle. They've all heard of newcastle but not Sunderland.
I must admit I tend to take what the players say as carrying the most substance. And two who played under KK, Rob Lee and Sir Les both said the players basically bottled it a bit. They reckon although KK could have been calmer that they just struggled to cope with the unstoppable pressure Man U put on them. People should never forget either that the run Man U put together from being 12 points down was nothing short of remarkable. I would think it is right up there with the best in the history of the PL. Les said he felt like every chance he got became the most crucial shot he'd ever taken, and felt he started snatching at things. Its probably a collective thing. I don't buy the lack of tactical nous people always lay at Keegans door. Look at his 2nd spell with us, he came in we couldn't do a thing right but came up with a three pronged tactical solution that got the best of out of what we had. Fair enough he kept it simple and just played players in their right roles, but is that so bad when you look at managers liek Fat Sam and Bruce? Keegan has this 12 point stigma attached to him, the blow up on tv, and the England managers role, but the reality he's one of the best bosses this club has had and got closer than any manager since to taking us to a trophy.
As a born and bred Mackem living in Cornwall. I can honestly say though the beaches in Sunderland are good, they are honestly not a patch on down here. You should visit Hayle mate. The bloody sand goes on for ever, huge waves and gin clear sea. Mind you I hate the frigging beach so what do I care?
