Not really. Seven trophies (if you include the Scottish League Cup) in around 14 seasons may sound impressive, but given he managed the dominant team in England for around half of that time winning trophies should be par for the course. In fact, it's a very similar record to Graeme Souness (10 trophies in 20 seasons) and we all know how **** a manager he was...

Yes, but if Dalglish manages to make Liverpool into title contenders in the next five years that will be seen as his greatest achievement. For SAF, taking Utd from the relegation zone to title contention in five years is seen as his worst spell in management.

When Fergie first managed Utd he had Robson,Whiteside,Moses,Moran,McGrath,Bailey amongst others who were FA Cup winners.

When Kenny took over at LFC the old guard ie:Neal,Hansen,Lawrenson etc were on their way out and were replaced.

Kenny brought in class players that brought us success whereas Fergie struggled to find likewise replacements for his outgoing players at Utd.

    Why include Scottish trophies won?

So Dalglish won 5 trophies in 6 years with LFC and you dont rate it?

For Kenny though the club was already in a place where replacing those players would mean continued success. For United fergie had to change the clubs mentality from top to bottom. A few of the players you mentioned for united were moved on because they went against what Fergie was trying to achieve at the club.

Kenny is a Liverpool legend for different reasons but shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breathe as Fergie when it comes to managerial status and achievements.

Its ridiculous comparing the two due to a few good reasons but theres respected managers that never had anywhere near Kenny's success during their managerial careers.

Cos we're talking about their whole career, not just their time with one club. And no I don't particularly rate it - before Dalglish, Paisley won 13 trophies in 9 years and ***an won three in one year. Which indicates that Liverpool at the time were better than Dalglish achieved with them.

Respected managers yes. Great managers, not in my opinion. Dalglish won trophies with a pre built successful team, making some modifications, but never built a sustainable legacy or achieved long term success like Busby, Shankly, Paisley, SAF, Mourinho. Chapman or numerous others. I'm not saying he's a bad manager, but there are lots of managers who have achieved similar in their careers. Dalglish to me is like Utd's midfield last season. Great when everything is going right, not so great when struggling under pressure.

And McMahon. And he moved Molby from the reserves into an integral part of the team in the middle, plus he moved Ronnie Whelan from the left wing into the holding midfield role, which was an inspired move in hindsight. Plus he managed to get the best of Craig Johnston.

Some Mancs talk so much rubbish its unreal.

Kenny bought the best striker, winger and inside forward in the country smashing the British transfer record and 5k a week barrier and walked the weakest league in english history. Qpr were second at one stage; that's how weak it was

He did as much for Liverpool as Wenger has done for Arsenal, why is Dalglish rarely afforded any respect for his achievements with Blackburn and Liverpool while people fall over their themselves trying to praise Wenger and his "legacy".

Well there are some holes in that argument, Mourinho built long term legacy? Hasn't he done what Kenny did at Blackburn at every club he has managed then buggered off somewhere else before needing to re-build? (by the way I do beleive he is a brilliant manager, but wanted to show the contradiction)

You have mentioned Kenny inherited a team, well under that logic all Fergusons wins after building a championship team are not as 'worthy' as he now already has a winning team he has just had to add to it. Ferguson is a brilliant manager no-one sensible can argue otherwise, but what he has acheived longterm, consistantly winning is what has set him apart. He built a winning team and since then he has just had to add and tweak it each season. Kenny built a team at Blackburn, he also kept a winning team ticking over winning titles, tweaking the team each season. Now he unfortunatley didnt stay long term for several reasons, but how is that any different than Ferguson?

Ferguson - Built a winning team at Utd, kept a winning team winning at Utd
Dalglish - Built a winning team at Blackburn, kept a winning team winning at Liverpool

Now im not saying Dalglish is a better manager than Ferguson, but to dismiss him as not being a great manager and dismiss what he has acheived as being due to other people is slightly shortsighted

No, he didn't. It isn't even close to being the same.

Dalglish was established at Liverpool, went from player, to player manager to manager in an already hugely succesful club/squad and kept that going until he let it turn to ****, frankly.

Wenger moved to Arsenal from abroad, inherited a poor squad playing alehouse football that was in decline and gradually instilled his own style of football, one that is completely different to the one they were used to, and brought success.

Not even on the same planet in similarity.

So, your statement begs the question is Freguson a great manager or just a lucky one? Now all truly great managers need both luck and skill to gain success. However, it is fair to say that Ferguson's success was built upon the performance of The Kids. They were not a result of any programme instigated by Ferguson and his turning to them was more an act of desperation. So he was indeed very lucky. Since then he has built teams and achieved success but let us not get carried away it could have all ended in disaster before it even started. Therefore to try and make a comparison between Ferguson and Dalgliesh is pretty silly.

Apart from John Barnes the other three Aldo,Beardsley and Houghton were overlooked by other 'big clubs',other clubs could've bought them before we did, right?

As for QPR,is that the same QPR that are 2 wins and 2 draws behind Chelsea now?,just because Chelsea were a nothing club at that time you've got a massive chip on your shoulder lad.

Did'nt Wenger inherit George Graham's team of Champions from a season previous to Wengers arrival at Highbury?

Graham never got sacked for bad results on the pitch it was because he was on the take.

Well tell me this mr oracle of knowledge.

How many of Wengers team that won that title were not his own signings?.

I cant be arsed looking it up so i thought i'd ask the fountain of knowledge instead.

    :)
