There is a mix of many MP's that have had normal jobs. Yes, there are those who live in another reality but you cannot tar them all with the same brush. Stupid comment.
If you were intentionally trying to create as much distrust and chaos in the population as possible you’d struggle to do a better job than this lot.
How has this even emerged as a story? Surely even the most non-medical person around wouldn't think of mixing these vaccines, yet someone, somewhere has made the recommendation
So our village has had 21 deaths... 3x more than the bigger town Thame next door (7 deaths). It appears that is explained with 16 deaths last April, which occured I believe in the care home in the village. I am truly shocked and upset by this. It is a small place that looks like just a big semi detached house, I have been to a couple of fundraising garden fetes there in better times... I cannot believe they had many more than 20 residents.. I am really really upset by this...
Heard this afternoon that the HSE (our NHS) are to start vaccinations in Waterford from Tuesday, we weren't due to get it until the week commencing 18th Jan...... My mother is due to get her jab on Thursday, I had to give the head nurse the ok........at least there is light at the end of the tunnel which isn't a train..........
I'm really sorry to hear this Beth. I can fully empathise. The people in care homes are so vulnerable. My eldest sister is in a care home due to a botched stapled haemorrhoidectomy. This left her blind, unable to talk or move. I was her main carer outside of the care home but have not been able to see her since early March when her care home went into lockdown.
I can't defend the government, but what are your suggestions for the way forward, bearing in mind health and the economy?
France: More than 2,500 break virus restrictions at illegal rave Published 5 hours ago Share Related Topics Coronavirus pandemic media captionMore than 2,500 people take part in an illegal rave in northern France, despite the nationwide curfew An illegal warehouse rave that began on New Year's Eve in France in defiance of coronavirus precautions has been shut down by police after arrests and clashes. Some of the 2,500 ravers in Lieuron near Rennes in Brittany had planned to party until Tuesday. Police issued fines to revellers found leaving and the organisers were being identified as the party ended. A number of party-goers were from the UK and Spain, police said. Attendees clashed with police, setting fire to a car and throwing objects at officers attempting to shut the event down. At least three officers were injured. please log in to view this image IMAGE COPYRIGHTGETTY IMAGES image captionPolice broke up the three-day party that defied a nationwide curfew A driver was apprehended with turntables, speakers and a generator in the boot of the vehicle, according to French TV station BFM TV. Police trying to stop the event faced "fierce hostility from many partygoers", a statement from local authorities said. But at 05:30 local time on Saturday the ravers began to accept the party was over and started to leave the two disused warehouse hangars, the local prefecture said. please log in to view this image IMAGE COPYRIGHTGETTY IMAGES image captionSome revellers said they were hoping to stay until Tuesday Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on Twitter that trucks, sound equipment and generators were seized at the scene and an investigation has been opened. One of the party-goers, who gave his name as Jo, told the AFP news agency that "very few had respected social distancing" at the event. A number of people slept in their cars before returning to dance, Le Monde newspaper reports. One reveller told Le Monde that the rave was "very well organised" with food stalls inside. Another, who came with four friends from Finisterre in north-west France, told the newspaper that she had wanted to "escape" for a few hours. I haven't the foggiest but then it isn't my job to. I certainly wouldn't be making up a Vaccination strategy at odds with the recommendations from the people who created the vaccines. Because we've had a combination of incompetence and outright deceit from this government, they will never have my trust. If they had admitted to mistakes rather than blustering through it or worse slyly shifting blame it might have been better. And now with the pandemic seemingly out of control they are utterly invisible.
I am starting to see the need to close our land border with NI and all flights in and out of this country. The numbers over here have increased so fast in the month of December and into January. We had 3,384 new cases in Ireland today and they are forecasting between 3,000-6,000 cases per day for the next couple of weeks. Northern Ireland also had 3.5k cases today too. For their population, that is equivalent to almost 9k cases in the Republic. The thing has exploded. We have 9 confirmed cases of the UK strain already so that should mean we continue to get worse the next few weeks. For the First time in the pandemic, I am starting to hear of a few people I know getting positive results. A friend of mine's Daughter traveled home from London the last day before all travel was banned, around 20th December. My friend said his Daughter's flight was combined with another flight and therefore the aircraft was packed. She was due to return before New Year but her 72 hour before flying PCR test returned positive. My friend and his wife think they might have caught it from their daughter. The testing system is becoming so overwhelmed, they have been told to self isolate in their house for 14 days without them being tested even though they are close contacts. My Brother-in-law's best mate has also tested positive recently. He is in his 60's and suffering with cancer so his immune system is already compromised. He will need a lot of luck to pull through. The first baby born in Ireland this year was born to a Mother who was covid positive and both of them are doing fine so there is the odd nice story too.
Coronavirus: New UK Covid-19 variant reaches NZ as Government introduces tougher testing rules for travellers Melanie Earley and Denise Piper14:06, Jan 03 2021 Email The mutant Covid-19 strain that sent large parts of England into a “tier 4" lockdown earlier this month has reached New Zealand. There were 19 new cases of Covid-19 within New Zealand since the New Year. Of the new cases announced on Sunday, one was historical and the rest were in managed isolation. However, six cases of the mutant UK strain have also been found in New Zealand, the Ministry of Health confirmed. please log in to view this image
After reading the latest updates from you folks, l'd like to offer my sympathies and best wishes to you all and your families. I'm sorry l can only offer words of support and wishes to you. Very sad times indeed. Aussie
I've checked the CVs of those in GOVERNMENT. Johnson - NO, Hancock - NO, Gove - NO, Williamson - NO. Read the post again. If I have missed out a practicing doctor who is one of HM's ministers as a side job do let me know. I referred to GVOERNMENT not medical advisers who are always far more cautious in their pronouncements. Their job is to advise. It is GOVERNMENT ministers whose job is to make decisions. We can all see the differences between the advice and the decisions.
I’m sure some of them will have done ‘real’ jobs before. Think Hancock worked for his dad for a bit before becoming quite a senior economist so I’m sure even he’s no mug in the right setting. Patel once worked on Death Row. Helen Whately did three shifts at Subway before being sacked for lacking the customer service skills. Specifically referencing doctors was a bit odd though.
So to ( not) cheer you all up on this first Sunday of the year. I was very wrong in telling you it was good that the virus had just mutated to be more transmissible rather than more fatal. I read this yesterday....all based on reasonable but ball park figures If the R number is 1.1. Infection fatalities is 0.8% ( apparently this is about right) Generation time is 6days... (Length of time you have it and spread it without knowing). You can work out number of fatalities that the population ( of 10,000) can generate in that time. That means 10,000 X 1.1 ^5 X 0.8 =129 new fatalities If the virus mutated and become 50% more deadly 10,000 X 1.1 ^5 X (0.8 X 1.5) =193 new fatalities But if the virus mutated and become 50% more transmissible. 10,000 X (1.1 X 1.5) ^5 X 0.8 =978 new fatalities So I was so wrong in saying it was good it was not more deadly. The increase in infection rate over comes the severity of the virus. So we are going into a much worse scenario than we faced last year. On that cheery note...I will re wish you a healthy and lockdown new year.
I thought we agreed ages ago that the medical advisers standing next to Johnson and Handcock were being disingenuous by saying that there was no evidence that the variant was more severe? As you have shown it is obvious that if it is more transmissible more people will get it and therefore more vulnerable people will get it and more people will die. Have to say though that I’m sure I’m reading your figures wrongly - a fatality rate of 10% (978/10,000)? While the treatments have improved it appears that if you end up in ITU with COVID the chances of dying are 50%, same as first wave. In the US they have approved for emergency use at least 2 monoclonal antibody treatments for vulnerable people with mild or moderate disease but a high risk of it becoming serious - the regeneron drug and bamlanivimab - both proven highly effective in stopping the disease becoming serious and keeping people out of hospital. Expensive, but ultimately save the system money by reducing hospital costs. At least one of them was involved in trials here, but I don’t think either are available for prescription. Not sure why. Might be that there simply isn’t enough product to supply, these things are tricky to make.
