Only a handful of lorries stopped getting into Norn Iron, just paperwork errors. It will be as you were really without Blighty having a voice. I can't see past the fact you left an organisation to then agree a deal with them that is worse than the one before. I know I'm looking at this from a certain perspective and am not English.

Is it the fact the EU (which had British influence) made laws that governed you or was it certain laws they enacted that you didn't like?

This is under the reviews for The Americans on Amazon:

It is a great series because it's realistic and deeply true. But instead of reviewing the show I would like to say something else. Westerners had many illusions and misconceptions about communism, but we in Eastern Europe (I was born in Poland) have experienced all its sad, abhorrent, horrible and sometimes criminal aspects.
People are just people and sometimes they are inclined to sacrifice values such as freedom (especially someone else's freedom) on the altar of temporary benefits. All the 1970s were dominated by so called detente policy, which meant that the West was ready to shrug off such issues as human rights behind the Iron Curtain for the sake of good relations with USSR. So we were really encouraged when Ronald Reagan (who appears in few episodes on TV) came and said loudly what any previous American administration did not dare to say: "We can win the cold war". Media, not only communist but the western also, including such American papers as "New York Times" and "Washington Post", laughed at Reagan when he was calling Soviet Union an "empire of evil" and saying that detente is simply immoral. But Ronald Reagan was right. Communism is immoral, oppressive, cynical and deeply inhuman. I lived in a communist country for almost thirty years so believe me, I know.
As one of the characters in the show observed (and it's the most appropriate motto): "For the greater good" is something evil people say when they do evil things.

I prefer the UK makes laws for Britain rather than the EU.

The trade agreement doesn't have to be for ever.
"It can be terminated by either side with 12 months’ notice, and more swiftly on human rights and rule of law grounds."

To be fair that excludes a fair chunk of his fellow posters of the gammonista persuasion.

I think if they had got rid of Brussels (power house), then I might have thought differently about the EU. I have just never liked the idea of what was becoming a one state, if I want that I'd go and move to America. Nowt whatsoever against 27 individual countries. How Nicola Sturgeon feels about Independence (attachment to the UK) is how I feel about my attachment to an EU state. I've never had a vote on the Common Market or what it morphed into, the EU. I wasn't old enough when it all happened, then not to get a say for 50 years, feels like your voice don't count as an independent country. I'm patriotic I admit it, not ashamed of it. It was Cameron's fault, the biggest mistake was ever giving me a vote. I didn't need Farage or a big red bus, my mind was already made up, long before those days. I'm sure you must understand some of this Ciaran, the Republic has fought its corner long enough. That's how I feel about that building in Brussels, I seriously wished someone would go and blow it up. Maybe now we are out, it might be forced to change its ways, by countries like Italy and Spain, who knows.

I prefer less politics involved in any process, so I've never liked what the common market morphed in to.

Anything that creates more politicians and civil servants has to be an expensive way of delaying things and creating decisions that are bad on a larger scale.

My ideal would involve scrapping political parties, with the local councils having more control, and sending a representative to a central meet up periodically to thrash out national measures, and share resources. There'd still have to be some form of national civil service, but it would be minimal.
