My half term report would state that we've achieved as much as we can with things as they are. I'm losing track with the number of threads that appear to be addressing the same thing. However, that in itself is a good indication of how high feelings are running at the moment.

Some will say that we should be grateful to be a well established Championship club and I have full respect for that point of view having suffered the dark years at the basement of the football league. However, we were saved and a new stadium built with thoughts of a really bright future. And indeed under Dave Jones we were treated to some wonderful attacking football and some special days at Wembley. But he went when he himself admitted he could not take us further and in so admitting, he recognised the potential of the club. Or, was it the restrictions that he recognised? I don't know.

For me, the days of being grateful for being a Championship club are now past. Caqrdiff City is a big club epecially when you compare it to some of the clubs that have had sustained periods in the top flight as well as establishing an ethos for a style of play. Bournemouth is the golden example.

Ultimately, as supporters of a club, we want to see our team win all their games and achieving a reasonable percentage of that would move us to the top flight. I am grateful that so many dark days are behind us but I think the gratitude should never kick ambition into touch.

My feelings on what I feel is needed is well documented elsewhere.

Gawd I can write some rubbish at times.

Not rubbish at all clingo. <ok>

Your point about gratitude getting in the way of ambition is valid. We are constantly reminded of the "dark days" both in the lower reaches of the football league and even more recently when we were fighting off HMRC whilst in the Championship - most of us on here experienced both.

Fortunately that dissappeared with the arrival of Tan and we should never forget the role he's played since. Unfortunately, good funding (in the past that is) will only take you so far and is no guarantee of sustained success on the pitch.

Yes, we need the financial input of Tan, but we desperately need the footballing acumen to go with it. That really is all most are asking for - the rest will follow.

    Again, spot on sir.
What I find difficult to understand is why VT didn't surround himself with real football people from day one. Surely he'd have avoided some misadventures and ultimately saved himself a lot of money. I'd have loved to have seen him spend like he has done but with better guidance.

I think Tan arrived on the back of Dato Chan's involvement with the club - I think we'd given his son a trial. The unexplained total withdrawal of Dato Chan (wasn't he club chairman?) when Tan decided to take a larger interest in the club was strange.

Tan came in with big bucks, sorted out HMRC and saw off Langston/Hamman after acquiring a controlling interest in the club. He did make some ill advised decisions like changing our colours and allegedly getting involved in managerial tactics etc, but eventually seemed to realise the errors of his ways. He got Dalman and Choo to run it for him after Lim's disastrous period here and it seemed a good fit at the time.

Since then we've never really looked back. Unfortunately, I don't think we've looked forward either.
