I cannot have just read 55,000 new cases today and nearly 1000 deaths.

Sadly we've lost a grip on it again which is all being blamed on the new strain of the virus.

I think that's an easy excuse and there are more evident reasons such as the Christmas gatherings which had people crisscrossing all over the country.

As we all know the virus, whichever strain, is transmitted by human contact so we should surely be staying apart for a little while longer.

Unfortunately i think that the UK needs a hard lockdown for 3 weeks. Sadly i think that even if the government did announce it half the people wouldn't give a **** and would ignore it anyway. Give ereyone 2 or 3 days to gather 3 weeks of essentials and then shut the country down, let the virus die a natural death.

Terrifying to predict what comes in two weeks when the result of Christmas/New Year kicks in.

You are right mate that was on the bbc this morning but the bit I don’t under stand the deaths are anybody that has been tested positive for COVID in the last 28 days are classed as a Covid death, does that make sense to anybody else on here?

I assume that's odd defensive language to protect from being misleading but it just confuses me to be honest.

I'd also assume if you get hit by a bus having tested positive they don't count you as a covid death.

But honestly. I have little knowledge on how it all works.

That death would be counted in the covid death stats. If you test positive and then die within 28 days that death goes in the tally count, regardless of what killed you. Our positive numbers are also so high because of the amount of testing that we are doing. We've tested 20 million more than France and Germany and 28 million more than Italy.

Point 1 is insane. I'm pretty baffled if that's the case.

Point 2. I'm not really comparing nations. Just 55k is a mental figure wherever it is.

There will also be deaths recorded as being hit by a bus when the person hadn't been tested but may eventually have died from the virus they were carrying ...

    .... just as one example.

These figures can never be exact, you just have to look at the general trend.

That, presumably, is what the government does.

As they've just put millions more into higher tiers you'd say that's because infections and deaths have risen significantly.

I'm not bothered about how various countries count their figures.

Some will be more accurate and some less, doesn't help the UK victims.

Of course it's not the case mate, that really would be insane.

"World Health Organisation guidelines state that “COVID-19 should be recorded on the medical certificate of cause of death for ALL decedents where the disease, or is assumed to have caused, or contributed to death, i.e. COVID-19 is the underlying cause of death”. Such an example would be someone who has developed pneumonia as a result of COVID-19, dies from acute respiratory distress. Alternatively, COVID-19 may be present on the death certificate as a significant condition contributing to death but not the underlying cause." (This principal also applies to being hit by a bus.)

There was a lad on here a while back who we all thought was a nut case so he was banned but he was saying this from day one and nobody listened to him it’s got to be the stupidest system I’ve seen without being explained properly.
