We're definitely up there, but I couldn't say that I wouldn't swap them for anyone..

There's not many out and out midfield partnerships I'd favour over ours, if we're talking strictly PL then I think there are a few players who would get in our midfield - Lampard, Gerrard, Modric, Silva etc - but most of their midfield partners are worse than Cabaye and/or Tiote. If you could class Yaya and Silva as an out and out midfield partnership then I'd go with them over our 2 but other than that, they take some beating!

I think Parker and Modric just shade it even in my biased eyes. Wilshere and Ramsey aren't bad either. But maybe (in the way they actually work together) Cabaye and Tiote are the best "partnership" as the article suggests.

But it's testament to our immense scouts that we've managed to uncover 2 CMs who would easily slot into top 4 teams, playing together, for around 8m total.

I hope this article was written by someone who isn't a Newcastle fan. Just makes it all the more sweeter.

Great article though. i completely agree. Tiote and cabaye is a CM partnership far ahead of what pretty much every team outside of the top 6 can offer.

Lampard - Meireles is pretty decent too. But, yeah I love this partnership

I wouldn't - too old and would need a Tiote to protect them in the PL.

Majority of teams now have a 3 man partnership. Barca have Xavi, Fabregas, Iniesta. Now, that I would have :)

I think its right up there. Its difficult because so many teams play a variety of different ways. I'd take Toure/Silva above ours but after that I'm not sure. Parker/Modric is maybe better too. Chelsea? Play a flat three so doesn't really work. Man U are surprisingly weak there. Arsenal have Wiltshire/Ramsey which is potentially class but Ramsey is having a shocker at present. Just giving the ball away for fun and looks to be having a crisis of confidence. Just Man C and Spurs with Chelsea able to probably field a better one.

think we are getting ahead of ourselves, the top teams have a much better mid than us, but yeh the specific partnership between tiote/cabaye is to die for

I'm sure we have one of the best once we add Benny and Marv to it

I'd go five in midfield and Ba up top

Parker and Modric are the closest contenders....but I think most of us wouldn't have Scotty back in a million years, especially for Cheik.

    We win.

    Cabaye --- Tiote
    -----Ben Arfa---

If Cabaye continues to improve and Ben Arfa gets back to his best I'd comfortably call that the best midfield trio outside of the top 4.
