I know **** all about the act you are discussing. That obviously makes two of us. Well, three if you count @HRH Custard VC , who has taken break from posting EDL memes, to chip in with some words of his own.

Erm, I quoted from the very Act you reckon I know nothing about, and then elaborated on where it fits in the wider context.

It's your mate that seems to lack the knowledge and/or understanding, but you're so one dimensional, you can't discuss anything, you just lob childish insults in the hope it deflects from yet another failure.

All the claims from 'your side' have come to zero, as we leave with a deal that other European Countries are wishing they had, and are acquiring other trade agreements, not to mention CANZUK. All that, on top of looking like being the first Europeans to get covid under control.

I can see why you guys are desperately hurting.

So you think that UK Border Force operating in Calais is terrible?
Or just EU customs officials operating in Northern Ireland?

What's funnier, is that it's their own dogmatism and bigotry that has painted them into the corner they are in. Had they actually ever tried to have a conversation rather than a battle, they'd have realised that there's probably more common ground than differences between us.

Instead, they developed their own version of other peoples views, and just pressed on trying to 'prove' them, even when it was patently obvious they'd got that wrong too.

Reductio ad absurdum is a perfectly proper technique for analysing legal documents as it points to situations where powers could be mis-used.
But let's try a more realistic example.
A future Government agrees with the EU that emissions of CO2 have to be reduced. It can add that to the Treaty by Executive Power as @petersaxton has already pointed out. But the new Act also allows the Government to immediately amend UK legislation to require this without troubling the House of Commons.

Hmm...having a Right to do something isn't the same as being able to do something. And thge Right has definitely been lost, so how is it a lie?

Reductio ad absurdum is a reasonable technique, but it needs to be a relevant scenario. Yours wasn't for the reasons I mentioned. If you still argue yours was a reasonable reduction, then my responses show the legislation is robust in that respect.

Are you saying that you wouldn't want CO2 emissions reducing? I doubt it will be a contentious issue, although I personally believe it should be, but that's a totally separate argument. What would your particular issue be with that measure?

So, which specific industry are you saying this would be aimed at? Each have their own controls and separate legislation to comply with, which is unlikely to allow retrospective applications of other legislation. The UK Government would only comply if it still maintained the level playing field. It would be called to arbitration if it wasn't.

I'm trying to have a discussion about whether the Government needs all the powers that it has proposed for itself in the Bill. You seem to be defending it at all costs when I didn't have you down as someone who agreed with major extensions of executive power.
