I think it is only the roll out of the Oxford vaccine that will prevent a postponement of the season.

Even that might not be enough. People going on like it's all over, same way they did when the first one was announced. What with the more infectious variant, cases are going to continue to rise. The amount on Covid duty will have an effect on the speed of vaccine roll out, can't do everything at once. Best thing would be to have a strict lockdown while vaccine is rolled out. My opinion of course.

Looks like the vast majority of the country are in tier 4 now, premier League matches called off, new variant running wild. Only a matter of time before they call off the rest of the season imo.

Don't know about that. I'm not convinced that the more vulnerable parts of the community being vaccinated will have that much effect upon the rate of transmission within the wider population - including elite sport. I think it is very much on a knife-edge at the moment whether we get a break imposed and maybe a re-start in March.

Has last season's EFL trophy final been played yet? If they delay this season then whoever wins it 'last' season will have to hand it over straight to 'this' season's winners whenever that gets played. :emoticon-0104-surpr:emoticon-0104-surpr

Aye agreed, they should have kept the vaccine announcements secret or low key, many many people totally oblivious to the potential threats of this virus, I am absolutely sick to death of following the guidance, whilst others just chin it off. It's the government that get stick for it, not a Dickie bird mentioned about the morons and fcukwits who are spreading it around because they can't do simple self discipline.

Is there only one company producing the vaccine ? why. they should have learned after swine flu, isolation centres at airports, docks any people coming into this country tested, a shut down the same day as an outbreak and NO ONE allowed outside other than medics, police etc for 2 weeks. shop anyone doing parties going on as well.

It is all in the air, but make no mistake, the final approval of this simple to administer vaccine is a huge step forward.

They are aiming to vaccinate around a million a week starting next week, which is a high bar. It will take not only a great logistical effort, but common sense from us, or at least from those amongst us who thus far have struggled to display any.

But, we can hope for a turning point in the late spring I'd hope. This points to the season being halted and started again, which I think I'd agree with.

I see it all as a bit backwards, in that I would personally vaccinate education and working age folk first.

Not against elderly and vulnerable in any way but surely the effect is bigger if folk who are commuting and in regular contact with others are jabbed first.

Not sure that vaccinating the older generations who do not mingle or travel is going to have any effect at all.

The idea is probably to get the death rate down asap, hence the elderly and most vulnerable first. Lots of death continuing on doesn't look good on the political CVs.

I was in my local garage at the weekend, every other person just waltzing in with no mask on, two young lasses on the counter behind a plastic screen who obviously aren't going to say anything and they didn't. Covid-19 is the the selfish disease.
What do you do, report the business, if so will anything happen anyway. Some people are just f**kwits.

Aye mate, same as those in pubs and restaurants etc, believing they are safe in their magic sitting zone, whilst waiters, punters etc just stroll past them.

Especially with loads of council elections due at the start of May!

The plan is to protect the capacity of the NHS by targeting those at risk of worse case covid infections and their carers, yet if you were going to tackle the transmission of any disease you would be targeting those most likely to contract and spread the disease. Less virus circulation gives decreased risk for everyone and not just to those most at risk.

Lots of them shouldn't be spreading the disease they should be doing the time and following the guidance, lots of them aren't. Impossible to police, and whatever decision whatever elected government makes, it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Really is an absolute nightmare situation.
