Aye I had several mates I was at Hunsley with who went straight to apprenticeships at Blackies. Wonder how long they all lasted. A sad day, but glad most have been treated fairly.
I saw the list of 72 towns and cities that got awards under the "Future High Streets" fund. Hull's £22M bid for regenerating Whitefriargate was rejected. Amongst others, Grimsby have provisionally received the award they asked for.
Grim... UK shopper traffic on Boxing Day – traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year as the Sales begin – was down 87% compared with 2019.
Terrible news. So many jobs are going to go. I said this when all this started they need to drop retirement age from 67 back to 60-62 Got to get young people into employment
Not a surprise with so many areas in Tier 4 - all non essential shops are shut. Lots of people are skint due to furlough or unemployment Lots of older people living in fear so avoiding public places 87% down seems about right. As chazz says the long term consequences for jobs & the economy will be vast
Heaven & Hell... New owners Premier Builders say they intend the demolish the empty nightclub entirely and redevelop the site for residential use in the New Year. The company is part of the Stockport-based Kingscrown Group, which specialises in both residential and commercial property development and management. https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/heaven-and-hell-nightclub-hull-4838334
It made absolutely no sense to hike up the pension age In the first place. In order to avoid paying someone their state pension they'd rather pay benefits to a young, keen workforce(some of whom cost far more to keep)? That benefit could be substantial if it were say a young couple with 3 or 4 kids living in rented accommodation.Save £170 a week in pension but pay out £500 in benefits???
It's never that simple though is it? Even looking just at the maths having people retire earlier means the govt is losing out on tax and NI revenues which are likely to be much higher than a young person in work would pay. The present work/retirement model doesn't work well imo. Would it be be possible to wean older people off work over a 5/10 year period gradually paying them less and get younger people in that way? I don't know.
It It is that simple if you want to look after the people! As this pandemic has shown there’s money available it’s just politics that ****s up our country. It might be fine if you’re sat at a desk in your mid 60’s, it might not too, but try dojng manual labour in your 60’s or hard factory work.
It's planned, the Arctic Corsair is already being restored and various other parts are already being developed, though I think it's still subject to a £15m grant from the National Lottery (HCC have got some funding already, have pledged £10m of their own funds and were only a few million short as long at the Lottery money materialises).
Not a good post Chazz. Of course you can borrow your way out of trouble like we are doing now but it has to be paid back at some point by somebody so it's not a viable long-term proposition. As for your manual labour/factory stuff, if you read my post again I'm saying that folk might be weaned off work gradually so they don't have to retire at 60 or 55 but they don't have to dig holes either.
Why isn’t it Seem to remember the government bailing out those banks. There’s no will in this country to help the common man/woman were riven by jealousy of someone getting something.
