You can't make a definite statement like your previous post and then fail to back it up with this though surely?

I can get the sentiment behind it, it's just really badly worded and does make them seem like they aren't paying attention.

"As with any newcomer to Wearside he will be given the warmest of welcomes and great faith will be put in him to rebuild our Club. However, we all bear the scars of the past few years, therefore supporters will hope to see evidence of an assured plan of long-term progression.
..we hope to meet him soon, where we will do our bit to help him to understand the passion and demands of our fans.
We will let him know that our support will continue and grow if he attempts to meet the standards and ambitions befitting of a club of our stature and history."

    https://www.redandwhitearmy.co.uk/post/rawa-reaction-to-takeover

We would like to offer a warm welcome to KLD as the new owner of SAFC. Having read the club statement regarding his impending takeover we are excited by the long term plans being layed out that puts the academy and youth progression as a central focus at the club. The fact that our new Sporting Director, who has previously spoken of the development of the infrastructure of the club and will have the remit of implementing these plans, has already been in contact with parents of youth players to discuss our future progression is in stark contrast to previous regimes. Following this up with the appointment of a young progressive head coach in Lee Johnson who, in his limited time at the club, has shown a willingness to give younger players an opportunity in the first team are excellent first steps in this direction. It is also good to know that KLD has done his research on our great club and our loyal and numerous fan base was one of the appeals to him and recognised as a crucial part of what makes Sunderland the club that it is.

Same sentiment, just worded a bit better, and it recognises that stuff has happened and shows some appreciation for it without needing to meet him to spell it out. It's a two way street that old supporters group club relationship and while I understand supporters wanting to see evidence of things happening and plans and that, it's also beneficial to recognise when they have happened, especially when you play it out in the media. RAWA need an editor between whoever wrote that and the internet imo.

"If I was KLD I'd be tempted to ring the EFL and just tell them to stick the application in the bin."

"people are saying KLD should walk away from the deal after been greeted with the statement."

That's two different things and only one person ...

... not 'people' as was said and only saying what he would do, not what KLD should do.

As I said, people aren't saying he should walk away.

I never said KLD should walk away. I said I'd be tempted to tell the EFL to stick the application in the bin.

    I'm a huffy bastard, though.

    My point exactly <laugh>

Ironically that's a lesson in how easy it is for something to be twisted by the media and built up into something sensational.

    Well, I'm convinced mate.

In all honesty what's the point of being cautious, the new man is here and will do things his way ...

... in all honesty all we can do is hope for the best.

Despite 'best intentions' not one of us can actually 'hold them to account', the Mags have proved that conclusively over the last decade.

Supporters have endless questions/opinions but I'm sure we don't want the new regime distracted by a tirade of contradictory opinions and demands ...

... so I'm just surrendering to our new overlords and going along for the ride.

I am behind him 100% and don't need anyone to tell me what I should be thinking
If he does well (and he has even though he is not here yet) I will support him, but I would at least give him two seasons to work everything out

RAWA won't have sent it to the Echo. The Echo permanently look through twitter and the likes, pull things from there and make "articles" out of them. There's been loads of articles I've clicked on which, when it's eventually loaded, has basically just been a write up of a twitter exchange I'd already seen. Local "journalism" is in a shocking state tbh

    Cheers mate.

So how are these statements released?

I, like many people, don't use Twitter/Facebook, so have no idea what's being said in my name.

The trouble is I suspect, as I said yesterday, that the intended recipient of this letter isn't the owner at all ...

... it's directed at the supporters to show everyone that RAWA means business.

If that's the case it comes across as sly and self serving to me.

I just pray the statement wasn't actually sent to the person they're claiming it was for ....

... do you know if it was?

How do people become a member of this elite group - are they voted in by the public, similar to local party elections, or is it just like joining a workingman's club, pay your subs kind of approach ?

No offence, but I really struggle to see the point of it, or other groups for that matter.

I genuinely don't know mate, they posted it on the RAWA website and linked on their twitter, presumably as an "open letter" it wouldn't need to be sent directly to KLD as well, although I can't be certain. They'll be due to have a meeting with the new people soon, so there likely will be some form of contact but, although KLD might choose to get involved if it's right that he's coming in as chairman, I'd personally expect speakman and Rodwell to be the ones actually meeting RAWA

The problem is that to be elected you need to be in the circle of people likely to elect you.

Even if there are 40,000 members they'll only elect those who put themselves forward.

I don't mind RAWA but they need to remember they're not part of the management team and won't be guiding or directing any aspect of the running of the club.

They might get better beer at the SOL, or put pressure on where the away fans should be ...

... but the club should be left to run the club as they see fit.

The supporters will always, as they've done before, make their feelings known.

I'm a member of rawa and I don't think I got an email asking for input, ask I'd have says was we welcome KLD to the club and look forward to meeting him at an upcoming event.

Problem with that is the people who see the club as the enemy now and can't let go of their position.
That’s the point looks like they never asked the members ??????

They can speak for their members all they want ...

... I just don't want them speaking for all the Sunderland supporters.

It's obvious some RAWA members weren't happy with this statement but they can complain directly.
