That's a draw I'm definitely happy with. Hopefully Klopp will be entertainingly bitter in the post match stuff
Can't win 'em all though Libs and even The Scousers drop unexpected points and speaking of unexpected I don't think many of us thought that we would have 25 points from 15 matches at the start of the season.
It's almost as if Mourinho is not terribly well equipped to manage in the modern PL, and after briefly allowing his attacking talent to do positive things earlier in the year, he has become increasingly negative because that's his default. While xG isn't the be-all, end-all, it is a reasonably good measure of chance creation. Spurs have two elite finishers in Kane and Son: when they create chances, you can expect those chances to be finished with regularity. Spurs currently find themselves below Brighton in expected goals, and have one of the lowest shots per game totals of any PL team. They don't create anywhere near as many chances as a team with their quality ought to, and it's only the sheer brilliance of Kane/Son that has kept their goals total from being absolute comedy. (We're even farther down the list, for what it's worth, and currently feature the largest gap between actual and expected goals. Likely for the same reason: in Ings/JWP we have two people who have converted opportunities from open play and set pieces at an atypical rate).
I still think we are response for Spuds early good start to the season. When we were 1-0 up at taking the piss out of them, the body language from their players showed all the signs of previous Mourinho teams that didn’t want to be playing for him. I believed at the time, that if we’d scored another in the first half we’d have gone in 2-0 and gin in to win that game. I also think it would have starts the end for Maureen. oh well. Ifs, buts, pots and pans
So you’re saying there’s an element at saints who want moaninho to stay in charge and threw the game on purpose by putting our back line on halfway.. something to think about for sure.
Which is also why we struggle without one of those about, especially Ings, because we’re not quite creating enough.
In Armstrong, Walcott, Redmond and Djenepo we have 4 potentially great chance creators, but at the moment 3 of them are out of form, and Walcott is being used as a striker due to Ings’ absence. We badly, really really badly, need at least one of the others to get back to their best. Or, as I’ll keep on saying until I’m blue in the mouth, use Theo for what he’s best at, and put N’Lundulu up top.
Never had any confidence in him taking that penalty. And in part because I did anticipate him to do that stupid stutter. I know he's a striker, but why would you give a penalty to someone who has barely played, let alone scored, for some time.
Really wish they'd ban those stupid stutters, hops, skips and jumping when taking a penalty. As funny as it is for the opposition, just ****ing run and blast it
I’ve said it before - what happened to the rule about taking an uninterrupted run up to take a penalty? Some players actively stop to commit the keeper, then place it the other side. It should be a straight run and shoot - any hesitation should cause it to be retaken (unsure of that ruling - Tom?) or voided.
