Don't think Donald can be blamed in any way for that episode, it was a situation he inherited, along with many others that were more pressing. Maja took advantage of the position he was in at the time and for that, I like you would not have him back.
It's hard to know exactly what went on. You ok could well be right and that uncertainty will always be there. Fans will be on his back pretty quickly if things weren't going well.
