There would be no better time to get back to winning ways than in front of their own fans, which for the supporters will be the first time to see Dean Holden in action live from the touchline.
The Robins are fully aware of their form, with Christmas arriving after three-successive defeats. The last of those came at the hands of Preston North End last Friday.
It was a game where City lost out to a questionable penalty decision in a first half of little creativity. But Holden’s side dug deep and looked a threat – through Antoine Semenyo’s notably energetic performance - after the break with the Lilywhites somewhat fortunate to hold onto a point come the end of the game.
Holden said afterwards his side and staff will regroup to find a way to “snap out of this run” but there will be encouragement and positivity from that second-half display. Similar on Boxing Day will give the Robins confidence of getting a result against Wycombe.
As for the Chairboys, manager Gareth Ainsworth is hoping to avoid relegation at the first attempt, following Wycombe’s promotion via the play-offs in July.
The two clubs last met at the start of the 2016/17 season, which City won 1-0 in the League Cup. Ainsworth was still manager of the League Two side then and ended up naming himself on the bench due to an injury crisis, though he wouldn’t bring himself on to the pitch.
A year later Wycombe won promotion to League One, with their rise to the Championship confirmed when they went on to beat Oxford United at Wembley in the summer.
This is their first appearance in the second tier of English football but there is work to do if they are to ensure survival for another campaign. The Chairboys didn’t pick up their first point of the season until a 1-1 draw with Watford at the end of October, which they followed up with back-to-back wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City.
But their form since has been a handful of draws and more defeats with a share of the points secured against QPR last time out courtesy of Amis Mehmeti’s late goal at Adams Park.
Despite creating chances being one of their strong suits, goals themselves have been hard to come by with Wycombe having the fewest strikes converted in the Championship (12) ahead of only Sheffield Wednesday (10) and Derby County (nine).
With the New Year on the horizon, Wycombe will want to turn their fortunes around. However, City have the same idea as they look to keep pace with the play-off chasers at the other end of the table.

This is what I prepared earlier this morning.
Earlier this season we won at Stoke in what I consider was probably our best performance of the season, only for somebody on here to proclaim basically that it was no achievement because Stoke were ****.
Guess what? they are now 3 points ahead of us, they have goal difference of + 5 and have lost 3 less games, what does that make us?
I have no idea how this game will go, as I have had no idea for the past 4 years. What I do know is if we don’t create we will not score, if we do not protect the defence or have some form of control in midfield, we will concede.

Wells looks like a player that doesn't want to be here, poor first touch and gave up too easily on 2 great through passes.

What a great finish by Diedhiou and I will take the 3 points but i'm sorry, we are shocking.
Wells for me can do one, he doesn't look interested. Semenyo is definitely a talent but he lacks composure and plays like a 6ft Junior Bent, Bakinson is a talent but is incredibly complacent at times. Rowe ain't good enough, Kalas was superb today, Vyner looked good as well, I hope his injury is not too bad, Hunt was ok, Nagy put in an incredible amount of effort, Martin kept going until the end but was on his own up front whilst Wells was on the pitch.

Again Diedhou saved the day from what could have been a shocker and try as hard as I can to believe in my team the fact remains that we aren't going to progress with the current players and apparently some of their individual attitudes are not where they need to be. Regrettably this is the mindset of City and it will be a wonder if anyone shows up to watch the usual dross when the crowds are let back in to watch and is there any wonder left to whet the appetite? We have regressed to the point we were at under GJ when it appeared the the players didn't give a rat's bottom about the club and it's supporters and the result of that apathy was clearly visible all over the pitch. If we continue playing like this under any manager we will face the consequences and it's not just the way we struggle against supposedly weaker teams like Wycombe but the whole set-up will never get us to where Lansdown claims he wants us to be in the future unless he wakes up to reality. A win it was indeed but give me a break from this disorganized mess and below par performances.
That was absolutely abysmal and just papered over the cracks.

Abysmal play but a great result, still playing with half our full squad members injured, transfer window is here, decisions must be made, DH is walking a fine line but is still 9th and 1 point off the play offs, hope reigns supreme.
we cannot afford to let Luton start with a flourish .. IT WILL BE GAME OVER ……. then Brentford ...that's halfway double everyones points and see where we are then for us get the same points as now but any team that is top 8 we have to better the points we got from them in the first half..... eg 1 or 3 from Norwich! …….
In the grand scheme of things Luton is another must win game to hang on to the shirts tails of the top 6, if we are to believe that recalled loaners and returning injured players and mystery players that apparently we signed but have never seen, are going to keep us in with a chance of the play offs.
All I will say is glad I don’t make the trek to the gate this season-absolutely bored stiff watching what has been served up.
