I'd like to know why there was only
    • one BAME candidate
    • one female candidate
    • no LGBT candidates
    • no Royal candidates

Happy to say I didn't watch it.

It's not my thing at the best of times but I had no intention of watching the possibility of Hamilton turning it into a political event.

My mother was ahead of me. She asked, in a disapproving way, whether I wanted to watch it and was relieved when I did not. She hates Lineker.

266 people have complained about the latest Christmas 'Vicar of Dibley' episode...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55440861

Apparently the congregation got a sermon about fighting racism.
Fair enough I suppose (if not very relevant to their rural lives). Opposing racism is an expected call from the Clergy in modern times.
Dawn French's character took the knee as well.

Just a tad over the top for that kind of programme?
BLM messages are in many parts of our lives now.
I doubt many folk were expecting to see it when they sat down to watch this show though.

This has been in the news for a while.

I was wondering if Dawn French would be able to stand up after kneeling.

I wasn't aware of it until it appeared on the BBC news website.
Not my kind of programme really so I didn't watch it. Just curious at the reaction to the unexpected content.

Just a last thought though on TVOD.

I'm not particularly old, but I can remember clearly when the notion of a female vicar was a novel one, and an offensive one to some.
That is remarkable and a bit sad, considering the Church has been around for about 1,900 years - and the C of E for not far off 5 centuries.
So a different kind of equality (anti-discrimination) was what 'Dibley' was originally about.

Also, I believe several of the Apostles were apparently women, who were given posthumous 'stickadicktomes' by the early Church.
Seems that 'gender fluidity' isn't such a new idea after all.

Merry Christmas, one and all! :emoticon-0171-star: <peacedove>

I don’t watch TV, and the BBC offering on Xmas Day (force fed, as no sport on) reminded me why. How anyone should be compulsorily charged for this absolute rubbish is a mystery @The Penguin . The best thing about it was a 1974 repeat of Morecambe & Wise, and the Test card at midnight.

“Highlights” appeared to include a camp bloke hosting a game show in which a bunch of other camp / minority “celebrities” were spun on a wheel (they had to reinforce said wheel, as Clare Balding was one of the celebs), followed by Eastenders which is even more depressing than a trip on the bus to Downham every day, and appears to contain every stereotype under the sun including the Asian shopkeeper, the Pentecostal Black family who drink rum punch, and a transsexual pub lady who actually turns out to be Sharon wearing a ton of makeup :emoticon-0101-sadsm.

If this wasn’t enough, the BBC topped it off with a “comedy” called Mrs Brown’s Boys, in which a fat elderly Irish man dresses up as a woman and swears a lot.
