Trying to offload him, Shef U and Birmingham being offered his services for £5.5 - £6.4m with us receiving 10% sell on. https://the72.co.uk/209660/sunderland-to-benefit-from-potential-maja-sale-as-bordeaux-look-to-sell/
Interesting that his goal ratio was better for us, I assumed that with better quality service he'd be banging them in.
I know he's up against better defenders but I reckon he's got the kind of natural strikers instincts that would get him plenty of goals in a good league. Lots of his goals for us he would have scored against any defence/keeper I thought. Not like he had a shocker with Bordeaux just maybe struggled with the step up.
It’s going to be ****ing painful like when he scores 16 goals in the second half of this season, earns a £45m transfer to Man Utd and gets an England call up
Will be interesting to see how he does if he goes to a championship club. Didn’t perform well for us there but was very good in league one. He’s played for Nigeria before I think
I’d hope we would offer a loan deal until the end of the season, pay him what we were offering with Bordeaux paying the rest. We could all put the what ‘if he’d stayed’ to bed. I think we all feel like he has unfinished business here. We need a striker that can finish. Bring him home.
All the French clubs about to launch into a fire sale as their TV deal (which was dubious as **** from the off...) has collapsed. There will be rich pickings for PL clubs at massively deflated fees, it’s likely not that he’s failed at Bordeaux, quite the opposite he’s seen as a saleable asset. They don’t have many. The vultures around Lyon with no CL money and no TV deal must be loving life, Depay, Aouar, Denayer, Dembele, **** me they will get torn apart.
No chance will Bordeaux allow that, without a mandatory purchase at the end of it. I honestly don't think he'd want to play at this level, also.
Yeah, this. Maja has done alright at Bordeaux. I'm not exact on the stats but I think he's scored something like 10 goals in 40 games. Not sure how many of those 40 games he has started because he has often been used as a substitute. He's still only 21, learning the game and improving. The Championship would be a good level for him, at the moment. He was still only 17 when he played for us in that division.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was interest from Germany and Spain as well, his game would actually really suit a few Bundesliga clubs, several really struggling for a striker who can play back to goal. I could certainly imagine him doing very well for a Championship club.
They agreed a deal not much below the PL deal everyone knew it was gonna go tits up, even without covid. They’ve then gone back to Canal who have them over a barrel on the new deal, nobody wants to watch Ligue 1. La Liga played the same game with Sky 2 years ago. They ****ed it as well.
Well put a clause in. If we go up we pay 5mil plus 50k per goal he scores, or they can sell to another club if the offer is better. If he bangs 20 goals in, he will raise his stock and the prem clubs will come knocking. Maja would be an excellent acquisition for the championship and put us in the running. If he sees the ambition of the new ownership/ structure he may be swayed.
That Mediapro deal was never going to work, Serie A knocked them back previously as they couldn't provide the necessary guarantees. And Canal are offering less per season than they did before as they know no-one else will take it on. Reims president was saying without funds, some clubs would face bankruptcy by March. Canny ****ed so plenty bargains for those with some cash. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...re-financial-abyss-tv-deal-collapses-mediapro
I'd honestly not take him back. I might be wrong but I don't see him scoring as much in the championship as he did in league 1. I might be totally wrong but I think he'd always have that cloud of past desertion around him. Even though I do believe he was essentially pushed by Donald & co.
