Get out of town! Are they British because they are bagged here? So ‘Yes, Minister’.

It's what the UK government does though andy - it has been going on up here for a few years now. Scottish produce suddenly began being labelled as British on the packaging and festooned with that union flag logo. We now have to put up with the likes of 'British' whisky, 'British' haggis and 'British' shortbread - although it has led to the popular slogan "If it's got a jack, put it back". When the new roadbridge over the Firth of Forth - the Queensferry Crossing - was completed a while back, with no input whatsoever from Westminster, we suddenly found it being touted across the world as a 'masterpiece of British engineering'. Anyone would think they are trying to repeat the suppression tactics of the 18th century again - stupidly though, as it has only helped increase the desire for independence to near-record levels.

What their plan is for the poor Spaniards is anyone's guess though - some sort of retaliation in the event that Brexit means Gibraltar is lost to the UK?

Dirty foreign carrots, coming over here and taking honest British carrots' jobs.

You'd have thought we'd manage to grow our own carrots cheaper...Probably the EU's fault, or something along those lines.

That was their cunning plan all along to raise £350M a week for the NHS <applause>

What I really don't understand in this current age, when statements by the PM or other Ministers can be checked immediately via the internet, is why they think that lying will not be noticed. Last week they claimed that they only had a warning from the WHO on Friday about the new strain of the virus. The WHO have put out a statement to say that the government was warned in September, and full data was supplied in November. The claim therefore made today that the government was "ahead of the curve" is clearly wrong. Then again last night Johnson claimed that there were only 170 lorries parked up outside Dover. Within minutes it was shown that this was wrong, with Highways England saying there were more than 500, which grew to 900 before they shut the motorway overnight. Today they have over 1,500 parked up around Kent, and the Home Secretary is suggesting that lorry drivers should just avoid Dover and the queues will magically disappear.

As most of the world is shutting down and isolating the UK, will the rest of the world believe this government when they say that everything is fine and you can trust us not to go back on our word?

I've just seen that the Swiss authorities are trying to trace 10,000 Britons who have recently entered the country. Here we have an indication of what we are up against. The thought that 10,000 people were stupid enough to go on skiing holidays at this time - travel agents were, presumably, playing along with this, is all mind blowing. Unfortunately there is no innoculation against idiotitis <doh>

I read that last sentence whilst seeing someone driving alone and wearing a mask in his car <laugh>

Actually I can see the sense in that Toby. Driving without a mask is going to pack your car with possible germs and so any passenger you subsequently pick up is going to get the full blast. Driving without a mask and then putting one on just before picking up somebody would be insufficient safety. Also many people don't like repeatedly taking masks off and then replacing them. I mean if you go into 3 shops are you going to take your mask off between them ?

A reminder to all hauliers that the French have not re-opened the border to France. Please do not travel to Kent as you will be unable to cross and may become stuck for longer.
    Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP

    Park up on the M25?

And now they are talking about testing all lorry drivers we read this.

"With cases surging and a new COVID variant running rampant, the UK's flagship Lighthouse lab (which processes 30k tests a day) slashed working hours amid a shortage of supplies last week."

Yes. I do, and I've noticed plenty others doing it too. With me, it's mainly because I've yet to find a successful method of stopping my glasses from fogging up.

These posts are just extraordinary. I agree with Toby that although people *can* check, they don't, and by that time the bullshit has had time to take effect. And then we're on to the next load of bullshit, while people are checking the previous load... Ad infinitum.

How long before the isolation becomes complete?

"The German post office announced yesterday that it was no longer accepting parcels destined for the UK as it could not guarantee their passage owing to border controls."

It was a cheap paper mask, they barely do anything....

Also, we're in Tier 4, so he has no business picking up anyone outside his bubble.

I've just seen the innoculation plan for Germany, which is due to start on December 27th. The first group to be innoculated will be those in care homes, and workers in the health system. The second group will be those over 75, or with existing medical conditions. The third group will be those over 60. This all comes as a disappointment as I had hoped that the first group would be the anti vaccine brigade, preferably forcefully in the posterior. The catch is, however, that the nearest innoculation centre to me will be in the town of Gummersbach - an hours bus ride away (or half an hour with bus and train) for those without a car (which includes us). It appears that Burkina Faso and Togo can manage mobile centres for outlying regions but Germany can't. My wife and I are in different groups when it comes to innoculation and this thing has to be done twice. So the consequence is that innoculation, for us, equals 8 individual bus trips <doh> There is, of course, the likely possibility that if the plan is to innoculate those most at risk so that the others can get on with their lives, that the virus will then explode amongst the non innoculated part of the population.
