Well this thread is an interesting read.

As for the nhs, it has been criminally under funded for the past 10 years and before that criminally abused by every government.

I remember as a boy 30 years watching my dad, who was in charge or the North East Essex Health authority nursing and midwifery services work himself into nearly an early grave through cuts, ward closures and the lack of funding making care impossible.

I can't remember who was in power 39 years ago but I know the pain it caused, I also see now my sister running an acute unit in Hampshire stressed out of her brains, working 15 hour days trying to keep the unit going and dealing with Covid but not having the staff or resources to cope.

 

It's a fooking disgrace mate and the politicians blame each other and the workers argue amongst themselves whilst they get away with murder

 

The **** part about democracy is, a country deserves the leader they voted in. Whether that be an idiot or an upstanding human. The country put them there.

I think most on here can agree Boris is a ****ing idiot.

But he got voted in because there was an even less desirable idiot, or set of idiots, on the ballot papers with him.

 

Am I being overly cynical to wonder if the tier 4 lockdown of the south east was announced specifically to cause disruption to international trade and so remove any headlines about brexit causing delays to international trade?

I did wonder if the MPs were given time to get to their country homes before the 'London lockdown' was announced.

Looking at the UK, from France, it looks totally chaotic. British people, by the end of today, look like becoming the lepers of Europe and banned from travelling there.

To return to the OP I just have to say the UK government appear to have handled the whole thing really badly. Perhaps I'm wrong, and they've been brilliant, but from the outside it looks a total shambles.

In all fairness, France are doing worse than England. If we look chaotic, god knows what it must be like living in France during this pandemic.

 

I'm not really talking Tory/Labour mate. I'm not really interested in that discussion personally, I think it all gets a bit ugly and I don't have any firm alliance to either party.

I doubt you'd find too many on here who harbour a great deal of respect for Ed Milliband, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair or Jeremy Corbyn. I certainly have no time for any of them.

Fair enough, mate. When posters bring up the Tories and I respond, I always get shut down like this and it's just a tad frustrating, that's all.

I don't have any and am simply saying things as I see it. To suggest that any criticism of the current PM is purely a result of plotical bias is disingenuous. There are Conservative MPs who are critical of the PM which doesn't make them rabid Lefties or stupid or biased.

There seems to be a Boris man-crush whereby any blame is put on an irresponsible public, the scientists or Jeremy bloody Corbyn.

He doesn't help by using this overly emotive language like he's a Piers Morgan TV presenter. Everything is world beating, fantastic, all over by Christmas and virus beaten in 12 weeks. Those promises just shouldn't be made, by the country's leader, not least because they make a deadly situation sound less serious to the public. That leads to the complacency we've seen which is partly, I have to say, reinforced by the PM's defence of the 'man of integrity' who drove around Durham for fun.

When, on Wednesday, the PM said 'it would be inhuman to cancel Christmas' I thought 'it would be inhuman to encourage people to mix when that's exactly how the virus is spread'.

This rhetoric from Johnson may sound impressive and present the attractive character that people are drawn to, but it looks more and more like he can talk the talk but not walk the walk.

I don't remember a time in my life when the division across the political spectrum has been so clear and the unshaking belief of both sides quite so profound.

I'm not saying this is everyone of course but the true blue supporters of each party seem to have a lot of spite for those sat at the other side of the table.

It's a shame, because it should be that each side has the common goal of progression and moving the country forwards, just with differing methodologies. It doesn't feel like that at the moment.

 

I just want the government to do a good job mate, I don't care who they are or what they represent ...

... of course I do, for all my friends and family in the UK.

It's like a choice between SKP and Johnson. I may vastly prefer one above the other but whoever is voted in I want them to do a fantastic job.

I just think the UK looks an absolute shambles, at the moment, and it's difficult having the French roll their eyes every time the PM does yet another U-turn ...

... anyone expecting continental truckers to risk going to England, carrying their Amazon purchases, can forget it.

Macron currently has a 32% popularity rate with the French. Johnson currently has a 38% popularity rate.

France has way more problems than England. I believe they've also taken to rioting and dumping **** on their leaders doorstep.
