So what's the excuses for the Palace game? We pissed away two points entirely because the style of play did not work, and it wasn't the first time this season where we've been in a winning position but let the opposition have the monopoly of possession for the entire second half and think it would work out okay - and then learned, actually, we wouldn't be Also, the fact we're making a meal of dead balls from the exact same area also underlines that the tactics are to blame because a.) We have a track record of being undone by free kicks from the right quadrant, which makes it clear there's an issue with our right flank if we keep having rash challenges happen in that area, and it can't be solely blamed on Aurier as the same things happen in games where Doherty starts b.) If we're set up to counter, then we should be capable of defending set pieces - but we're not, as between Dier getting easily bullied and various players being incapable of clearing the lines, if the initial ball doesn't lead to a goal then the failure to clear our lines certainly will It's no use saying we have the best defensive record in the league if we can't defend against set pieces, because if we can't see out a 1-0 lead then having a good defensive record is for naught
The team cannot see out games without conceding near the end, so by definition they have to be more than goal up by then (ie ATTACK) . So either play to be N-nil up by then and trust there will be no Spanners repeat, or start fronting up in CM +/- press more in the opponent third to relieve the pressure on your penalty box. What do you think Jose and the team will decide to do ??
The obvious issue with our counter tactics is that, if we're going in at half time with a lead, in the second half we don't set up to counter - we set up to sit back and weather the storm, and doing so just hands over the momentum to the opposition with a nice little bow on it. Palace and Newcastle are the most obvious examples of this because a 1-0 lead isn't something we should be sitting back on for 60+ minutes, we need to get that sucker punch of a second goal at some point in the second half, yet we never seem to be trying to get it
A must win for us considering the other results. the old questions will start to get asked again if we slide at this stage
Yeah, I've changed my mind now and agree with you. It's not a time to take chances because we simply have to win. I think I underestimated Leicester, which is a dangerous thing to do.
Let's be honest, there's two scenarios we should worry about i.) A free kick from the right quadrant leading to a goal ii.) A free kick from the right quadrant leading to Jamie Vardy getting another convenient penalty
It was already, regardless of other results. "the old questions will start to get asked again if we slide at this stage" Nope. A new question will be asked (can you guess what it is) ...
Now comes the question as to how much of a serious PL 90 mins both NDombele and GLC can actually endure ...
Whoa, whoa, whoa...first comes the question about what formation we're playing, as with that lineup it's a multiple choice question
