Lee Bowyer is honest but not with himself. It was YOUR fault LEE. You are very quick to hang the players out to dry.
Albury Addick not happy and I can't argue with his points.... Angry Albury I switched off my Valley Pass on 80 minutes at 2-1 up and said to my wife – we’ve just decided to bring on more defenders – it never works – we will drop 10 yards, invite pressure and concede an equaliser from a penalty, corner or free kick. I then tuned into LiveScore at 16.57 to witness the inevitable. Swindon were truly awful in every respect and will make a swift return to Division 4, but we still couldn’t find a way to beat them. I’m definitely not Nostradamus but if I can see it , I’m not sure I understand why Lee decides to defend deep when a) we don’t need to and b) it never seems to work. I really don’t buy this thing about ‘anyone can beat anyone in this division’ nonsense. Basically that’s only true because the teams are all so awful. There isn’t a team in the Division this year who are anywhere near as good as Luton, Barnsley and our team when we went up together. Nevertheless, we struggle to beat even the poorest teams in this division. Given that apparently we cant really change the team apart from the arrival of Ronnie Schwarz to replace Omar Bogle ( how on earth did he miss that chance before half time) and we don’t yet know if Schwarz is any good, then we will need to smarten up on the tactics with the same squad if we are to get in the Top 6. As an aside, I don’t think Ive ever seen a footballer who is as one sided as Maddison. He only does left and nothing but left, his left foot is a wand but his right side is purely for swivelling on. He is very talented but predictable. He wouldn’t be a starter in my team.
Conversations about Bowyer are like the traffic in Swindon, we heep going round and round in circles.
Nobody wants to see Bow get the sack but these negative tactics need to stop.... they cost Parky his job, they cost Sir Chris his job, they cost Slade his job... yesterday we were in control against a poor Swindon team yet we went ultra defensive with two negative substitutions.... why? .... when Maddison came off we should have brought Williams on, NOT another defender!
Over the 90 minutes we didn't deserve to win. The focus yesterday was on the last 10, but even before that our midfield was poor. None of them played well, did they? Jonny Williams was left on the bench for reasons unknown. We had very few passing movements up the park. When I look at the midfield I wonder if the players are just not good enough or is it the way they're set up. I don't know, but most of the time we end up playing the long hopeful ball because there is no other option, and it's not pretty. Josh Cullen made us tick for the last two seasons, and no-one yesterday was anywhere near his quality. None of them was able to find space, or make space. So why no Williams? That's the question.
It’s so bloody annoying did the same at Shrewsbury got in front then sat back and conceded . I saw people say look at Shrewsbury’s results since a win at Hull blah blah blah .as if it justify it some even saying that was a point gained . Shrewsbury were crap as were Swindon our negativity cost us the game end of.
Watching the goals back again from yesterday, both we conceded were very soft. The first one was rare poor defending by Maatsen, the second a free header in our penalty box - similar to the one we conceded against Wimbledon the week before. Lee Bowyer’s comments on the EFL Show were depressing- he always seems to be looking for someone to blame, and there is never any self analysis in his comments. If the Plymouth game on Boxing Day is allowed to go ahead - Plymouth is in Tier 2 - then changes need to be made.
WAtson's a clever player who always seems to know where everyone is, and keeps the ball moving. Maybe it's difficult for him to be a link between defense and midfield when none of the more attacking players particularly want the ball.
Gilbey was excellent first few games before he got injured possibly our best player ,since he returned from his injury a shadow of his former self.
I wonder how much influence Johnnie Jackson has at the club ? My gut feeling is - not much. He is a well respected figure amongst both our fanbase and our squad. I think there needs to be someone big enough within the club to have a word with Lee Bowyer over Xmas about his mistakes. He has come across as a hothead in recent months. I read elsewhere that Charlton now has the strongest and most experienced squad in League One, based on a number of criteria including international caps. Sitting 7th in the league and only one point ahead of Accrington Stanley at this stage of the season is a poor performance. Thankfully we now have an owner who demands the same success as us fans do.
Weren't they Cup games? .... I know he was very good at Swindon in the League Cup game..... don't know if that is relevant?
I’ve still got faith in Bowyer ...tactics been rank lately tho ..but the weird thing I suppose if we hadn’t switched off late on at Shrewsbury and Swindon we wouldn’t be complaining at all and sitting pretty in second ..small margins but can’t excuse the fact that tactics played a part in us sitting back
