Last year when I returned to my beloved home-town of ull for Christmas family celebrations, I was dragged to the Fair Maid in Cottingham area for Christmas dinner, for what was quite frankly Wetherspoon's leftover's...and for £30 a head I expected something a little more!

Can anyone please give me a recommendation of somewhere which will serve good quality food for 12 people on Christmas Day, in the Hull area - my folks live in the bit of Hull which pretends it is Cottingham...so east Hull is probably too far away.

Would be much obliged. Ta x

Sounds like you live near West Bulls, so i would go there. Pretty much the same meal day in day out but its good. It will cost you more than the £3.70 i will be paying today though.

There's no pub in Willerby called the Railway, there's The Hope Pole, The Star and the Ketch. There's a Railway Inn in Cottingham?

I forgot about that one, it's called The Innkeepers, but who the hell would want to go to a Toby Carvery on Christmas Day?

shut down? really? I know it will be when the new Tescos is (might be) built.

On the subject of that Tescos development. I dont know anyone who agrees with it in Cott, but I bet you it goes through. If it does say goodbye to the Cott Lights

i walked in and straight out again of the 'new' West Bulls recently. it was full of track suits and screeming kids. for a comparison, i know a good caravan canteen on the A46 which is substantially better

Not sure Mussie. You're right about the price, but Tickton isn't cheap either. There's also the restaurant at Fergie Fawcett in Walky. Not sure if they're open Xmas day (they used to be when I worked there but that was a fair few years ago)

The Hop Pole is in Willbery and one end of Endike Lane is(just about) in Cottingham.

The Fergie has been crap the last couple of times I've been in, it's not nearly as good as it used to be.

The Dog & Duck's been done up recently and it's better in there now.

Didn't know Fergie had gone downhill - was good when I worked there. I normally take my gran there for Sunday lunch when I'm back in Beverley. Will maybe try Dog & Duck instead

The innkeepers actually do a good Christmas Day Lunch and it is better than West Bulls, which IMO is no where near as good as it used to be. Would not use Hop Pole for Christmas Day. The Railway has indeed closed down in Cottingham

Not sure what its xmas dinner will be like, but the carvery at manor farm (used to be wildfowler) on Willerby road is spot on. Went there last night and got what was probably the last bits, but was still lovely.
