During his commentary, Tommy Mooney said (please excuse very slight paraphrasing): “They are playing like they are still in the Premiership, where you can’t afford to lose possession because there are players that will hurt you if you lose the ball. But this is the Championship. The players can’t hurt you the same, and the teams at the top are the ones that go and attack.” Now think about how Brentford and Norwich play. This situation is absurd.
Everyone seems to be questioning what on earth is going on. I cannot for the life of me understand why we are trying to play Sarr as a midfielder. He is a winger to my mind, and although his crosses do not always find someone, he creates fear with his speed, pulls defenders out of the middle as they try to double up on him when he does play out wide.
Not seen enough of us play to judge, been super busy for the last few months. What I have seen is players barely trying, usually the sign of a broken team spirit. We needed to refresh the squad and clear out the dead wood. Not sure where to go from here, we have lots of very good footballers, just need to get them in the mood and fired up to win. Ivic hasn't had a proper chance yet, takes a while to bed in, but his tactics seem off. I'd get Zola back in an instant. Get some positivity and smiles back into the team. I still remember Battochio and Abdi ripping Huddersfield apart a few years back, probably one of the best games I've ever seen Watford play.
4 goals all season on the road says it all. That would be poor if you were at the bottom and had a bunch of kids! Let alone some quite expensive attacking players. We seem to pick up endless injuries which hardly help and go out to not lose rather than win. And of course that goes out of the window if we make a few mistakes like today like Foster and Capoue did.
I think given the resources he has been given and the reality that we can not keep them for another season in the Championship, he has to take responsibility for his tactics which will not get us auto-promotion.
