    Take from the Daily Star
    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/214493/Liverpool-lead-the-way-splashin-the-cash-

THE true cost of football has been revealed and it is Liverpool who sit alone at the top of the table.

Experts have created a *price- per-point league to see which owners have splashed out the most cash relative to their success.

They found the under-performing *Anfield club spent £7.5million for every point they won last season.

And Merseyside rivals Everton proved to be the thriftiest investment, as they have spent just £48,000 for each point earned since a takeover in 2004.

Free-spending *Manchester City were second biggest spenders at £5.3m.

Cash-tight Arsenal came a *surprise fourth at £2.5m per point above rivals Manchester United (£1.5m).

Liverpool spent a whopping £7,525,423 for every one of the 59 league points they have accumulated since American businessman John W Henry bought the club.

The American billionaire coughed up £300m last October to buy the side and since then he has spent *another £144m on transfers and wages.

Big-name signings *include £35m striker Andy Carroll, 22, and £22m for hitman Luis Suarez, 24. City have spent £5,335,106 for *every one of their 188 points since being bought by Abu Dhabi royal Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2008.

That total includes huge sums which have been lavished on encouraging household names to join the team.

They splashed out a *mammoth £38m for Argentinian *forward Sergio Aguero, 23, and £22m for Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri, 24.

Other teams to feature in the top 10 include third-placed Sunderland (£2.2m per point), sixth-placed Chelsea (£1.4m) and seventh *Aston Villa (£1m).

The table was compiled by website FourFour Two.com as part of its *annual football rich list.

The full lists are available at *fourfourtwo.com

Once it becomes clear Liverpool will not win the League, the pressure will mount on their manager and owners. Kenny will jump ship.....again!

Not taking the piss. Liverpool have spent a great deal of money. Agreed. Liverpool I honestly believe will not any time soon win the league. Pressure will mount on the owners and then downwards to the manger. Simple. He will not be fired in my opinion but will walk away to save his own face and that of the club as he would not wish them to 'fire' a Liverpool manager.

Dalglish will not do anything to save his own face but will only do what is best for liverpool. We are usually pre Roy very patient with managers and I don't see a change for at least 4-5 years. Although I will add to that I beleive Kenny will be a success and be there until he retires.

Admire your faith in him though to be honest it is misguided based on his managerial career as a whole.

I posted it to take the piss out of the big spending Liverpool (in a nice way), all that money spent, and look at them, a 4-7th placed team at best.

It often proves, spend big and you win nothing or very little.

Errrrm how can you include the cost of buying the club in the spend per points. Lets do this with man utd in the 2005-06 season, glazers spent £600m to buy the club plus £25m on players that year. Taking 3% annual inflation into account over the 6 years since then and now that £625m becomes £750m in todays money. That season united came second behind chelsea with 83 points, which works out to be £9m per point in todays money and this figure does not even include wages.
I don't see how people are critisising liverpool for what the other top clubs have been doing for years, If we dont spend then we won't close the gap to the big spenders like utd, city and chelsea.

    What a load of ballony

J W Henry now has an asset he paid £300m for which if he wanted to sell would now probably get close to £500m

Seems impressive doesn't it? But would this be the same Dalglish who failed to rebuild Joe ***an's squad and left in Feb 1991 with the new Liverpool manager Graeme Souness facing an emerging Arsenal and Man Utd who both would dominate the 1990's and 2000's and leave Liverpool far behind.

Would this be the same Dalglish who at Blackburn with Jack Walker's open cheque book, made some 27 signings at a cost of £27.75 million (a massive fortune in the early 1990s) and broke the British transfer record twice? Would this be the same Dalgish who after having 'bought' the title 'moved' upstairs for Ray Harford to take over and failed to show the world that he could build on the success?

Would this be the same Dalglish who went to Newcastle Utd in January 1997 and inherited a squad of players signed by Kevin Keegan? Would this be the same Dalglish who after taking Keegan's team to a finishing position of 2nd that season took them to 13th place in the following campaign with the team only finishing 4 points off the relegation zone?

Is this the same Dalglish who then attempted to lead Celtic and failed? Is this the man who recommended John Barnes as a coach?

Not trying to be smart but I do not rate the man as a coach or manager. Liverpool fans love him and hate anyone for daring to criticise him. Fair enough but don't be shocked if the rest don't view him through rose tinted glasses.

What a load of bollox this is. We had to rebuild most of the team and since FSG only took over in 2010 obviously Liverpools is going to be the highest does'nt take a genius to work that one out.

I suppose only time will tell Dalglish has had some failures in his career but Fergie has not always been a fantastic manager either.

We could argue the points all day but faith is what we have in Dalglish and nothing is going to change that at this moment.

Plus, I don't think we would have spent that much had we not shifted the number of players that we did. Don't forget, we recouped quite a bit of money from selling players like Torres and co.
