I see #WeSayNoToMazepin is trending. Wonder if Haas will bail on the muppet. Doubtful.

    Haas need the money!
To be honest he is young and can come back from his mistake. That said the FIA didn't really punish Max when he assaulted Ocon did they?
Hopefully Gunter will lay down the law to him and he wont just reply with 'well my dad pays for the drive so go swivel'.
I wasn't too keen on Kvyat to start with but I did warm to him. It seems that Russians don't come across as friendly as others.
Hopefully he does some growing up, quickly.
It doesn't matter if the girl was OK with his actions or not it's the fact that he published it for the world to see him acting that way. Shows he has some media training to come.

It seems she might not have been as willing as implied and also possibly under the influence.

Toto staying at Mercedes for at least 3 more years. Talking of Mercedes, it's less Mercedes now.

It's both a curse and a blessing for Perez.

I think it's the right move for Red Bull in 2021. If Red Bull genuinely believe they can challenge for a Constructor's title in 2021, then Albon needed replacing and Perez was the best option available. He should be more capable of staying with the top 3 in a race, or give them a different strategy option.

Does rather put the status of the Red Bull junior program in doubt though. That's another driver discarded, and if Perez does well, no seat available at the senior team for several years. After the first third of the season, if Perez demonstrates he's a step above Albon was, then Gasly and Tsunoda will know there's no progression from Alpha Tauri, and leave them looking over their shoulder at Vips, etc as they get closer to F1. Surely they'll have to look outside of the Red Bull family?

Assuming Perez doesn't flop, is that the end of Albon & Hulkenburg's F1 careers? Hard to see a route back for them. Even looking ahead to 2022, the grid is already relatively full, and the likes of Alonso and Vettel already have contracts, so really the only possible retirement is Kimi, and the only seat you could imagine being under threat is Giovinazzi's. And with Alpha Tauri drivers potentially looking for a move, Albon and Hulk are going to struggle to be more than 3rd/4th choice for any seat which opens up.

    Perez ?

    never heard of him ......

seriously , I think they were left with little option . I had heard that it was DM that wanted to keep Albin which I think was nice .

To DHC , yes sadly I think that will be it for full time drives for Hulk or Albion .

Delighted for Perez to finally get a chance in a top team, eight years after that false dawn with signing for McLaren right before their decline started. After a brilliant season from him, there is some justice in F1 after all. I can't remember the last time a big team signed a driver they weren't already linked to. (Bottas is arguable since he was managed by Wolff.)

I do feel for Albon. To say he was thrown in at the deep end is putting it mildly, partnering Verstappen with only 12 races of experience. It's no shock that his confidence was destroyed. I hope he gets the nod to drive the Alpha Tauri in 2022.

I haven't seen any mention of how long Checo's deal is. He was saying earlier that he might take a year out then he had a strong lead on a 2022 drive! So it could be just a 1 year deal and then he moves to another team! No idea which one.
As for Tsunoda it's a bit weird, I would have expected him to get the Alpha Tauri seat and potentially progress to Red Bull IF Honda were staying. Then again he might be part of the deal to continue to use Honda PUs? Still don't understand why RB need Honda's IP, surely they just need licence unless they are being greedy and see £££ down the line with Honda's IP?
Gasly and Albon need to think outside of the Red Bull group if they are allowed. I avoided the phrase 'Red Bull Family' as they don't seem to treat their drivers like family!!

    • I think it's a single year deal for Perez at Red Bull, and realistically whilst he's possibly got options for 2022, I doubt things are so tightly sewn up that he couldn't stay at Red Bull if both parties wanted it. And it's not like he'll have a seat lined up somewhere better than Red Bull.
    • I think Tsunoda is genuinely talented, and Red Bull are impressed with him. The Japan/Honda connection is an added bonus.
    • I presume Red Bull want the IP so that they can set up an independent engine supplier, either by themselves or in partnership with Illmor, Cosworth, etc. A license for the Honda design might allow them to produce the current design for themselves, but restrict their ability to develop it further, or sell the engines to another team. They probably also want to have the full capability to transfer all the technology underpinning the team to an engine manufacturer, so it can feed in to the next generation of F1 engines in 2025/26.
    • Honestly though, it wouldn't surprise me if this is all postering to try and get a better deal from Renault. Renault have no customer teams next year, and their engines are basically as good as Honda, arguably ahead of the 2020 Ferrari power unit. Renault would be under great pressure to supply Red Bull teams with the alternative being two teams pulling out of F1.

Very valid points , but the Renault boss ( pro F1 ) is leaving at the end of this season , so does that put more doubt on Renaults ( Alpines ) long term plans ?

I guess it depends on how expensive/unprofitable the F1 engine business is for Renault, and whether they can get a buyer for the Enstone team. But leaving that team without an engine supply would make it significantly less attractive to buy.
