I don't think I have heard this myth before. I have often heard Arsenal fans bitch and moan about Scholes's tackling but haven't heard many United fans claim that he tackled well and never meant to hurt a fly. What I would say is that if someone went out to hurt him to begin with, was there really any harm in him looking for retribution? I find it hard to believe that Alex Song, for example, wouldn't do something similar...
Still up there with the greatest PL players ever. Would love to have a revived Scholes at his peak in the squad again!
Football is supposed to be a mans game, Scholes never seriously injured anyone, he just wasn't afraid to get stuck in when a game became physical. Maybe if Arsenal had had a few more physical players when the likes of Adebayor, Fabregas, Flamini etc were playing they may have won atleast a trophy or 2. When Arsenal were at there best, during the Henry, Bergkamp, Pires and Viera period Arsenal regularly had the worst diciplinary record in the league. You cant win trophys with a bunch of fairys in the side, like the current Arsenal side
I'm not bothered at all about him admitting it but i have heard countless times that the reason he fouls so many people is because he just can't tackle.
a lot of the game is in the mind. If scholesy did this and got into a few peoples heads then job well done. If he crunched a playmaker early on so he'd quickly play a rash pass if he thought paul was nearby then i think it's a fairly good tactic.
That is a common tactic. Paul "I was just getting people back." Scholes was up to other 'tactics' though
This. Didn't Scholesy also say in another interview a couple of months ago "I don't remember doing many bad tackles". Not sure I'd believe anything he says after that claim!
