Oh, you think there may be a racial element to the sentence?

I think when people see someone nicking their precious possession, they are not always rationale in what they do to get it back. That doesn't seem to be taken into account here. The court is simply worried about the vigilante element. He's been made an example of.

It looks like it's down to whether the EU can slap Napoleon Macron down or not.
His posturing could be what stops a deal.

As someone who had their motorbike stolen a few years ago I can understand exactly how that guy felt and have to admit I'd be tempted to do the same in such a situation. The police were a total bunch of arseholes in my case initially contacting me by phone demanding I went to the local nick to file a statement and chasing me up during the day while I was at work. I eventually gave them the statement that evening and two days later received a letter stating the case was closed due to lack of evidence, apparently their interest was to get the file closed on the last day of the month for whatever reason. They seem to think a crime number is all anyone is interested in.

In My case the bike was never recovered and almost certainly sold to parts merchants who supply backstreet workshops, the insurance eventually paid up and that was it but if I'd ever seen someone riding it I'm sure I'd have gone after them...

Just had notification by my insurers of a big rise in thefts of cars like mine, so maybe it'll be me being sentenced to 10 years next....

Tricky one - you've got to sympathise with the chap for losing his rag and going after them, especially when there were loads of videos of the police doing that to acid attackers not so long ago. It's a natural human instinct to chase them.

On the other hand, he has taken actions which caused another man to die, albeit unintentionally.

Seems fair that he was found guilty for manslaughter, and assuming he only serves half of the 10 years, 5 years doesn't seem wildly wide of what I'd think is fair. Agree that the sentences for dangerous driving can seem odd - they also seem to vary hugely.

Wonder what the motivation is to bring up a dig at a teen girl is from a year ago? Seems odd to me and not exactly relevant with current politics

Sentence seems to high to me, but then I don't know all the facts. It's interesting that the DPP originally charged him with murder so perhaps there was an element of malice and retribution in what he did, rather than just to recover the bike

No winners out of this for sure

One man dead, one badly injured and one incarcerated at significant cost to the tax payer - all over a motorbike worth £450

He's already been slapped down, with Covid according to the Guardian, and after meetings with his own government officials and EU heads of Government. Track and trace in operation. Rather confirms my opinion that attempting to agree/do Brexit in the middle of this pandemic is utterly irresponsible. It should be postponed until it's over, most likely not until most people in Europe are successfully vaccinated.
