I've learned to let the Labour followers point the finger and cry about all that goes wrong in the world. It's all they ever do. Nobody wants to vote for that **** stain of a party so it's very rare we'll see them in Downing Street. Let them cry.

 

It's widely stated over here that the Premier of Victoria absolutely bungled the handling of corona virus in the state.

He made idiotic decisions, he passed the buck and generally came across as a useless despotic twat. People suffered for it with the longest period of lockdown anywhere in the world (at the time).

Yet we are out of lockdown and we now have no corona virus in the community. People defending Boris is confusing given that.

One day several months ago. The figures over here and over there were relatively similar. One country acted decisively. One didn't.

It doesn't matter if he's on the right or on the left. It's not about tribalism or politics. It's competency, and he just doesn't seem to have done a good job at all.

The left might have been better at dealing with it. They might have been worse. We won't know because it wasn't their responsibility. It was his.

 

Without reading every post, I assume that everybody on here is congratulating Boris Johnson for the way that his government were investing in vaccines being produced all over the world so whatever came out safe and effective we would be first in the queue?

 

Mate I’m not religious but I see Christmas Day as a sacred family time. It would matter hugely to me if I couldn’t celebrate with my family.

I can see somebody on the news after Xmas, we lost 5 out of our 6 group to COVID and Boris only advised us not to meet up because of this deadly virus that’s killing everybody so it’s his fault they are dead, How “ some “ of the British public think. He should know we can’t think for ourselves.

 

I would argue that many who will be meeting up over xmas would have done so even if there was a lockdown. But yes, they will find someone else to blame when it all goes tits up.

The same report as I understand it, recommended the equivalent of 2 “airport hangers” full of PPE, as a starting point.
Watching one of the debates, I recall this fact, and whoever it was on the panel said, “we had 2, but unfortunately we actually need 42”.
So with the best planning in the world, there was always gonna be a race for PPE.

Then there was Labour actually moaning about how the numbers of PPE was actually counted. IE PPE gloves count as 2 pieces of PPE, which is how they’re counted throughout the world. Yet Starmer and his clowns thought it was another case of cooking the books.

Also you cannot compared with NZ, which has less than 1/10th of the population to deal with, and even less of a % of international travel in and out, OR OZ, who has seen its numbers drop mainly coz it’s their summertime, you will recall ours did the same.

I’m just praying the vaccine does it’s job and we get back to normal by this time next year.

The UK is four different nations that are governed independently on health. England have less deaths than France but because folk are still classing it as just the UK then we have more. Sturgeon has done a ****e job in Scotland and the same with the Welshies. Not sure how NI are doing tbf.

 

You do know that you can get boats and planes and things. The fact we are all cramped on this little island and are a major multicultural hub for the entire world, we were always gonna be near the top of the league. I'm not defending Boris (or the government) though mind, I'm not a big fan of his. I expect things could have been done differently for the better but I have sympathy for all world leaders and governments who have had to make hard decisions in such unprecedented circumstances.

 

True, Britain IS an Island.

But not the same as, say Australia or New Zealand where their nearest neighbours are hundreds of miles away,

Ours is close enough for thousands (apparently), to hop into a rubber dingy and get here, illegaly with no checks at all.
Then we have the requirements of our trade.
Thousands of lorry's a day coming in.
Then we have the open border with The EU including of course Eire.
These are problems not shared by many other Island Nations.

It is perhaps worth underlining that New Zealand is both one of the most Isolated members, geographicly, of the UN Nations and has been so successful in handling this problem.

Bonking Boris may be at fault for many things, his lack of hindsight way well be worrying to many on here, but it's just a tad unfair to blame him for the geography as well.

 

London and New York are the financial capitals of the world. Businessmen and women flying in from all parts of the world on an hourly basis. We were always going to get smashed with this, so considering we are 4th or 5th worst in Europe and we may well drop down that list given our governments efficiency on stockpiling vaccines, I don't think we have in anyway done as bad as some seemingly want us to have done.

 

We have probably one of, if not, the smallest sized area/most populated ratio in the world. Drop a bit of Covid amongst the population and it was always gonna spread rapidly. Cant see how being an island has anything to do with it.

 

New Zealand will always have it easier. You go to New Zealand, to go to New Zealand. When it comes to us, you go to London, to then go to New York, then to go back to London, then onto Paris. Its such a major world centre whilst New Zealand is an outpost.

 

We did a good job of defending it during two world wars, I dislike the billion pound contracts getting lashed out willy nilly to their mates over trying to seriously halt the spread, the ppe scandal for example, there is another today the battery plant in Blyth £2.6bn contract given to a mate of the cabinet gone tits up for tax evasion, it all stinks to me
