Yeah. I completely agree. During a global pandemic, sport and transmission it causes should probably be rethought. Everything else has been.
I thought it a possibility that we would not play as well against Wimbledon as we did against Lincoln...partly cos they would park the bus and we are Sunderland after all (its the way). What I did not forsee was Covid19 decimating the ranks. Of the players i thought Sanderson showed what he could do, Leds was important and O'Brien showed well. McFaz ( not just for a stupid penalty) did do a couple of useful things but overall generally Hume has no worries. Grigg was well Grigg..and Dobson was very average. Wimbledon could have scored a couple of goals on open play, but they didn't... so we road our luck a bit. We had lots of possession but few good chances.. the CB took his goal well.
It would probably destroy sport. Many clubs would go bust, and possibly whole sports entirely. For a virus that kills as many people as flu, it would be a pretty drastic thing to do.
Suppose it depends on the fate of those 7 players who haven't tested positive, but are isolating. If they can get tested today (and come back negative) surely they can be included in the squad for Sat
The U23's have a game on Friday so I would expect some update from the club to either postpone that game or go ahead. Even with a few days to prepare we have sufficient talent in the u23s to bring into the first team for the match against Shrewsbury. Younger, Neil, Curry, Hawkes. As @TopCat_SMB says - it all depends on test results. I'm not sure how it works for elite sports but I think if they have 2 negative tests they are deemed OK. If we have more positive tests it could be postponed.
EFL release a statement https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...virus-statement-sunderland-wimbledon-19466738
Simply passes the buck back to the clubs, you can postpone but there may be unspecified consequences, politician speak!
It was good...(back in communication, village had a power cut for an hour) well taken goal, he perhaps should be considered strong, to hold the ball up good in the air and can shoot as a striker! Wyke after some terrible games is scoring (7 goals?) and is holding the ball up better. O'Brien I thought looked a little better? Grigg was as I said above was Grigg. Not having the option of somebody holding the ball up in the centre last night meant we were always using the wings, particularly Diamond, and it was easier for the Wombles to defend. If we can offload him and Graham and bring in a big lad with some pace! That would be good business. I also have to say none of our keepers fills me with confidence. Backs are okay, we seem to have bunch of very average midfielders, Leds, in front of the back 4, is a good option, not sure about the rest atm. I suspect this never ending takeover/investment needs to be finalised, so we can really move forward...
The EFL's position is to let the clubs make a decision and then investigate the clubs. As far as I'm aware, only three EFL clubs have postponed matches; Accrington after getting 19 positive cases, Scunthorpe after 8 cases and Bristol Rovers who haven't announced any figures. Now assuming all protocols have been adhered to and it wasn't caused by a party gathering, can't see any problems for Accrington and Scunthorpe due to the numbers involved. Can't say about Bristol but we only had one case, so again, assuming all protocols have been adhered to, I'm not sure the EFL would accept a postponement due to one positive case. I see it as Covid is a risk but as soon as you get one positive test it becomes a hazard. There needs to be clear guidelines as to what a club should do under those circumstances so that the risk of further infection is eliminated completely. Clubs shouldn't have to be worrying about potential sanctions as part of that decision making process and the only time that sanctions should come into it is if you have to postpone because of your players being bellends and getting together in breach of tier restrictions.
A bit of buck passing, really saying yes, you the club can postpone, it is up to you, we will then investigate and if we decide you should have played there will be sanctions.
No, tests have a roughly 30% fail rate when it comes to negative results. No way can a test be used, they have to isolate for ten days
Cant help feeling that we still may have contributed to the fiasco somewhere down the line. Internally we havnt done things correctly, leaving a grey area, meaning that when the EFL investigated the postponement we might have ended up looking like right Charlies.
