The team we put out was good enough to win, that was clear by the way we controlled the game. But I still think it would be harsh not to cut some slack for the team tonight. 8 first team players announced unfit within a day of the game is unheard of really and any team is going to struggle with those conditions.
Most results good tonight a point nearer top spot than this morning Lincoln have gone to pot Hull lost again Not to bad overall
Are we in a position to postpone the game at Shrewsbury or is today not enough notice for the EFL numpties assuming of course we still have the same number of players indisposed with covid.
if i was you i would watch the manager interview after the game, even he has no idea why they HAD to go ahead with that game...this does not come down on the club by all accounts, this is down to the EFL AGAIN!! every single business has been told exactly what they can and cannot do but as usual, the EFL have no clue.
then we should have postponed the game and faced the investigation, which we’d have passed we can’t be preaching “safety first” whilst simultaneously prioritising not getting fined or losing the points
You don't know that and that's the whole point. No-one was sure if we would get sanctioned or not as we have no idea what criteria the EFL would be using.
I am concerned that EFL come after us for NOT postponing Not sure what they could do but it would be so SAFC
If it were to come out that we’ve had a large outbreak and have to close the training ground we may be subject to such an investigation anyway frankly. And rightly so. if we are then found guilty of any breaches, and any Wimbledon or Lincoln players subsequently get positive we could be in trouble
The way the EFL operates we could have pulled out of tonight, had the game awarded to Wimbledon and copped a points deduction on top. They'd argue that we have enough players at our disposal, because of academy players and so on, that we can fulfil the fixture, while someone like Wimbledon might not have those numbers. It's one rule for one, one for another with those sods and they're petty enough to increase penalties if we appeal and they chuck it out. Just look how they decided on points per game, then kept kicking it down the line until they got enough to agree, same as the salary cap, the way they treat Tranmere, Wigan (letting Barnsley give a statement at the appeal why Wigan should be relegated and they survive), Bury but botched up Sheffield Wednesdays punishment so put a harder decision in for this season (Wednesday should have got a 6 pint deduction at the start of the season, not 12). I don't trust the EFL at all to be fair, and their total lack of leadership and direction under covid has been a disgrace.
There’s zero precedent for any of that tho. The likely worst would have been a 3-0 win for Wimbledon and a small fine. Which it we were truly worried about safety and welfare above all else, we’d have taken
So we contact the EFL and get no clear guidance regarding possible sanctions for postponing the match. We then follow government advice and isolate those who have had contact and play the game, yet you think we're somehow in the wrong. What do you think the club should have done then, postpone the game and run the risk of a points deduction?
a fiddle here that game should have been called of like the Charlton game, but made no difference who played tonight we were not going to win that game as the jekyl and hide Sunderland are back, and that was torture how slow them back 4 were this is going to be the worst season ever now and worst year. a real shame to think another 4 points and a top 2 place was ours, now Accy will finish above us we might beat Shrewsbury but i am not looking forward to anymore home games this season they don't look interested , why they cannot play like they do away is a mystery. Bring on January now.
Isn't a decision the club should have to make. The elf should have immediately cancelled the fixture, not warned there may be sanctions. With the club 100%, especially if sanctions and reasoning behind sanctions wasn't made clear.
Haven't read the thread but just saw 8 players dropped out of the first team squad. I think, given that, a draw is a remarkable result. The fact that the season is going ahead when **** like this is happening is a ****ing joke. It makes a mockery of the sport.
There is something not right about all of this. There is talk saying the EFL offered a postponement, which we declined. If that is so,we must have been concerned we wouldn't pass the subsequent mandatory investigation, which means we might have breached the Covid protocols. LJ wasn't clear in his interview about where the fault lay. Today should bring some clarity.
