Fair do's Sparky. If that is right then I retract my statement partially as it would have been incredibly harsh indeed! I do recall grumblings though so I guess it was more a case of not getting a "name" perhaps? Still stand by my opinion that we don't have the patience as a fan based to wait for change. For it to happen we'd need a massive squad overhaul AND near instant success with the new squad and that rarely ever happens.... successful, sustainable revolutions don't happen overnight.
No probs Brizz - I think it's more about a change of approach that a few of us are talking about rather than a simplistic change of manager. Harris is caught in a circle of good intentions that in truth masks a lack of footballing prowess at the club. To a certain extent he can only be as good as he's allowed to be, but to achieve real change whilst operating within that environment needs exceptional managerial talent which I don't believe he possesses. It's not entirely his fault all the time, but his inability to achieve consistency and get the best out of what is, and let's be honest here, an average squad of players at this level, is going to cost this club more time on the sidelines. Fans are impatient - 100% agree, but many believe that real change is beyond this current controlling hierarchy and their appointed manager. If we don't get a bounceback win tonight, and a draw would be almost as bad, then the rumblings will go on. If we do win, it'll all go away again - but I fear only for a while.
After tonight which should be winnable we have Naaaarwich away and Brentford home. Those will be the acid tests of what Harris and his team can do. Puki could tear Morrison a new one and Toney seems to score at least 2 from 3 games for Brentford. Why the hell did we not try to sign him?
Just checked Toney on Wiki. His fee of £5m from Peterboro plus another £10m from add ons might have had something to do with it. His scoring record before signing for Posh was not impressive but since then, wow!!! 55 goals in 94 games since 2018 including 15 in 18 for Brentford. This lad could be going places and another in a long line of strikers signed by Brentford for not normally huge fees then sold on for mega bucks. Grey, Maupay and another one they sold last year whose name I can't remember. They have some scouting system there - for a pretty small club.
Yes it was Ollie Watkins. Read somewhere that Warnock wanted him from Exeter when he first arrived here but City wouldn't fork out the £2M they wanted for him. He then went to Brentford instead for £1.8M - the rest is history and they got £30M for him off Villa. Just maybe another indication of the lack of footballing nous at our club when they then go and sanction £6M for Madine.
Ha ha ha beat me to it Sparks. Just saw that.... bit harsh having taken them up. In my opinion another case of a club expecting more than perhaps they should and not accepting their own limitations. Think Bilic would be a good fit for us though... IF we decide to relieve Harris of his duties.
The taxi taking Harris to the station could pick up Bilic on his way in. Just thinking out loud again.....
" a club expecting more than perhaps they should, and not accepting their own limitations ". That would make a cracking epitaph for Cardiff City.
Depends on who you speak to Vetch. Personally I'm comfortable with us being a Championship level club... yes we could have potential to be more but history has shown this to be, in the main our "natural" level. If we do better than that on occasion (which we have done) then to me that's a bonus (of sorts, but don't get me started on my view of the Premier League and how I believe it to be the worst thing to happen to football in the UK). There are sadly too many fans that believe success should be a "right" for their clubs... I'm not one.
I share your disdain for the inappropriately named Premier League. One big con trick. I much preferred the old First Division.
FFB I think there are MANY clubs that fall into that bracket. My own view of Swansea City nee Town is that they historically should be considered a League 1 / Championship level club in reality. I could be wrong but I believe they've only had around 9 years of top flight football in their entire history. It IS just my own view of the world though. Certainly not science or genuine logic behind it.
