I'm sure I can speak for most fans of football and say Gerard Houlier was a class act. RIP.

As others have said, Houllier was the man that set the foundations for what was to come. In an era where we were relative underdogs compared to the top teams in europe, he gave us so many fond memories. A class act both on and off the pitch. RIP.

Houllier was manager when I started getting back into football after some dark days watching F1.

Yeah, there were managers of LFC when I was a kid and only nominally a Liverpool fan. Houllier was my first Liverpool manager as an adult... Great guy.

Not only that he also set the foundations for international football, his work with the French youth system pretty much won them France98 and started the French dominance. The systems he used were in turn copied by all the other nations and has created modern day international youth development.

    Remarkable man imo

Good point. Seems he was very well liked within the football community, I had no idea the salzburg coach was so close to him but he was choking up in when he was asked about him today. How he helped him lots during his career and they became great friends.

The word "warm" has been used by loads today to describe the man. Says a lot I think.

Will go down as a big part of this clubs history and rightly so.

He was Head of Red Bull football development for a long time, responsible for alot of the good stuff all the Red Bull teams have done since 2012.

Can't lie I've gotten quite emotional watching all these memories and nice words from all the people he knew in the game.

I really can't have enough respect and gratitude for the man and all he done for the club and people associated with it.

Some nice memories from Danny Murphy.
