Haha yeah you do mate. About once a year! I'm formerly bow4fowler if you weren't aware. The twice legendary moderator of this very board
Gérard has been ill for a while. I mean he went into hospital with heart problems when he managed us and Phil Thompson took temporary charge - and won a shed load of games in a row if I remember correctly. And then he stood down from the Villa job due to I'll health. And he's been in hospital recently. Sad.
Sad news that. Like others have said he directly set us on the right path. Genuinely nice too, doubt he had any haters
So sad to hear of the great mans passing. In my time of watching his Liverpool teams home and away, up and down the Prem and in Europe too, he gave us the one thing that we all need in our lives, hope. To some of a certain age, we actually thought we could topple those down the East Lancs and take a title win off them, it wasn't to be, but boy did I enjoy the times he gave us attempting to do it, and I thank him for that. The emotional return to Anfield after his 1st heart attack against Roma was the loudest and most vocal of nights I've seen or heard in my near 20 years of going to watch Liverpool, all four side of the ground singing his name as one, very emotional and unforgettable. I know the club do him proud, as will the supporters, because he made us proud to be Red from the Spion Kop once more...!! RIP - Gerrard Houllier…
Desperately sad news. I watched The Long Wait again over the weekend, so Gerard was fresh in my thoughts. Great manager, great man and he did fantastic things at our club. He loved this club and the city of Liverpool. He'll be sorely missed. He's my favourite Frenchman. RIP.
He was a very knowledgeable bloke when it came to football, not just on the pitch but how a club should be run from top to bottom to get the best out of players of all age groups. A lad I grew up with carried out the emergency heart operation he required when he collapsed at Anfield during the game, Professor Rodney Stables, he went to Bluecoat School in Liverpool, had no interest in football at all.
I was critical of his style but it was successful and won trophies, the man IS a Liverpool legend! No one should have to suffer in life and he had more than his fair share of ill health. May he now rest in peace
One of my favourite memories of watching Liverpool, the McAllister goal vs the blueshites, fantastic.
United fan in piece - terrible news. Houllier was undoubtedly the catalyst for your recent successes and seemed a true gentleman.
I remember him pointing to the far post and at the time thinking nah he's doing that for show... Than bang. Great goal.
Will always admire the man. Gave us Gerrard Carra and Owen, the former two being two of my favourite Liverpool players of all time. So a massive thanks for the memories GH
