I went after 530 as late night shopping
It was open the other day
Maybe just not worth opening on a night?

Mike Ashley looks like he's going to buy it out, so hopefully that'll keep it open and save some jobs. As it stands, 12,000 people will be out of work very soon and that's not good given the current climate.

Yes, I misunderstood. I thought Chazz was saying it was closed down for good.

It really is sad to see the demise of the town centre. I used to love a day before Xmas going around town shopping interspersed with calls at various pubs. There was a real buzz about the place, which probably been lost now.

“Christmas shopping” was decent last year. By Christmas Shopping I mean going in one shop then staying in the pubs. Was busy everywhere and a good atmosphere.

If nearly all the shops go then the pubs are naturally gonna suffer lower number visits making them less viable.
Most people I know don't really care they would rather sit at home with a few Tinnies or Build a bar In their garden.
Not exactly a good way to meet other people when you throw in the work from home change !
It all seems a bit too regressive to me !
    Very sad :emoticon-0106-cryin

Surely it will hit a point where intervention is needed with lower rents or something to get more to open. Could encourage more independent shops amidst the Home Bargain, B&M and the like.

    I dont know mate .
It would be a real shame to see a ghost town .
One of the best things is that feel good vibe for a few weeks at xmas when people go shopping and have a few drinks .

Two new shops have just opened in Hedon, a sweet shop and a deli, both doing good business, Hull City centre is now too spread out with too few shops to be a place to go, that’s why shopping malls are so popular, and little towns like Hedon will do very well out of the big operators going under.

I earn my money on businesses failing.

People see insolvency differently to me, as I see it as a natural part of business life.

I can’t comment on any of the big department store closures as in some small way I am already involved.

What I can say is that when the dust settles and the money is divvied up, the only losers will be the employees and pensioners with the landlords and suppliers following close behind.
Rents have never been a big problem, rent reviews and renewals are often a big problem.
It’s people mate, the middle class who have gone from bragging about how much the things they bought cost to how cheap they could get them.
The people who do not want to walk 10 yards out of their way.
The people who try stuff on in a shop and buy it online to save a pound.
Town centres will be just like in the states with downtown and malls. Downtown full of sole traders and short life cafes bars and restaurants. Saturday trips to “town” will be night time visits.

That was my fist thought when I read about it at the weekend. Would suit someone perfectly if they were retired, didn't need to earn anything and had time on their hands. Now, let me see...

Home Bargains and B@M don't leave a lot for the independents to sell. They cherry pick all the everyday lines, the one's you need to sell on a daily basis to pay the rent, and leave nothing for anyone else, exactly like the supermarkets have done for years.
It's a race to the bottom with those budget shop. Even Poundland couldn't make it pay in Hull.
Mind you Karl Turner will be happy tonight now P@O are pulling out of Hull. He won't have to badger them anymore about their pay policy for Philippino workers..

I don't think you can say that anymore apart from the fact the majority of workers there will probably be women
