Agree DD. People keep using the number of games as a reason for changing the team,BUT all teams are playing the same number,so our superior fitness will see us through.
Pretty sure Farke said that he rested Gibson for Zimmerman because he needed a break. 20 year olds can easily play 3 times in a week which is why Max and Skipp are ever presents .
From the Pink'Un prior to the Forest game: "Daniel Farke would happily settle for a repeat of Christoph Zimmermann’s last start for Norwich City. The German centre back is ready to step in for Ben Gibson, who Farke ruled out for the next two weeks on Tuesday after suffering a calf strain."
Maybe to prevent injury that could keep him out for longer than the odd game or in order to give someone else a chance (one of our players), who could do even better than Skipp who will be with us next year. Or maybe to encourage competition that may press Skipp to perform even better.
He chipped a bone in his toe as well but still played . The guy hasn't played for 2 years and needs resting occasionally
In order to give Sorensen a chance in his natural position to see what that brings to the team. It may only be for a game or two, but IMHO it is something that needs to be tried when the situation is right to do so. As things stand, Sorensen will be LB for several more games yet so the situation may have changed by the time there is a chance to do so.
The "right situation" for this would surely be in the FA Cup, rather than at what is a critical stage in the league? By the way, I'm interested in what you think is Sørensen's "natural position" and where you would like to see him "tried". Judging by his career to date, his natural position is CM rather than DM.
We are not at a critical stage of the league. Being top now means nothing. it's where we are towards the end of the season. What is critical is that we keep everyone motivated and up to game speed in case of injuries. If Skipp gets injured we need to be in a position to replace him with a player who is game ready, same with other players, we can only do this through rotation. There are good solid reasons to give Skipp & others a break when we can for Skipp's, other players & a club point of view.
The next 33 days see us playing Reading, Cardiff (twice) and Watford, plus QPR and Barnsley in the league. If you think that that's a time to experiment other than in the FA Cup, I'm sorry, I disagree. Also, there are no midweek games either side of the FA Cup match against Coventry, so any player genuinely in need of a "rest" could be given one then.
Don't want to worry you folks and it is only media talk over here on the Continent but many sources are suggesting that Dortmund will be knocking on the door at Carrow Road for Farke
Interesting. I think we have all experienced prize assets being taken from us - it happened with Lambert... Farke has to count as one as he is very much the “modern” manager in breeding and style. I still think he has much to learn though and, like Lambert, should think carefully before leaving Norwich for grasses that seem greener. Getting us back into the Prem and keeping us there for a season is the sort of thing that will teach him a lot and will raise his stock higher. But if he goes, he goes. The great thing about the club structure now is that the first team coach is not quite as central anymore.
To be fair Farke always said that the plan was for him to be a central defender and playing DM a league lower than we were in helped in his development to become a central defender.
Well as a left back Sorensen is growing in stature each game with a goal and assists to his name . He may even be better than Quintilla and Byram , I would be tempted to not tinker with a winning team. If Byram returns and we are short of midfielders then he could possibly switch to his favoured position. I remember Wenger signing Henry and playing him as a winger before putting him up front. It's good Farke instills flexibility in his young players.
Appreciate what you say Rob but the chance to coach at one of the biggest Clubs in Europe where you have previously worked, a Club that averages home gates of over 80k, a Club that specialises in young talent and a Club which tends to stay loyal to its staff does not come along very often. It is also difficult to see what bigger opportunity would come his way even if he stays here and does well,
In point of fact, Godfrey was identified as a future CB at the time of his recruitment from York City, pre-dating DF arrival. Don't forget that Sørensen played at both LB and RB as a youngster, before settling into a midfield role -- I think there was mention of it in the EDP interview with Jens Askou in the summer when Sørensen signed.
Yes I remember because many members were wondering why he wasn't playing CB position on loan, then got confused when he came back and was being talked about as a CB
I'd be very surprised if there's any truth in that. I've no doubt Dortmund will be keeping a close watch, but currently DF hasn't anything like the CV of the usual Dortmund head coach, all of whom were appointed after successful stints managing at the top level. Also, there's the uncomfortable example of DF's predecessor at Dortmund -- Wagner. He had a bit more EPL success than Farke, yet failed at Schalke 04 and was sacked after they set a new record for their longest losing run.
Farke is contracted until June 2022 and at the moment we are looking like we may possibly go back up again. The EPL is the place to be for managers so I doubt Farke will jump ship in this current position. IF we fail to get promoted I doubt Dortmund will be interested in him. A year in the top flight keeping us up will no doubt attract suitors and he will be in the driving seat as his contract will expire at the end of the season. All hypothetical at the moment but hopefully he's not going anywhere. The likelihood of him keeping us up would be slim and many of us would be wanting him sacked anyway . Fickle bunch that we are
From an article on the BBC web site by their German Football "expert": "Borussia Monchengladbach's Marco Rose is among the top candidates for the hot seat at the Signal Iduna Park next summer. More immediate options include Ralf Rangnick and RB Salzburg's Jesse Marsch, but the club's preference is to wait and see how things develop in the next few months." Monchengladbach have just been drawn against Man City in the knock-out stages of the European Championship. That's more the level of achievement that BVD will be looking for.
