This is why I don't like the way we are playing we just invite this. Could easily have happened against Arsenal. We won't win anything unless we impose ourselves more.
But such performances don't matter as long as we're winning, right ?? Game after game this season the CM has let themselves be overrun in the 2nd half while leading.
1-1 FT. Far, far too defensive after going ahead and we paid the price. Started on the front foot, took the lead, then sat back and eventually conceded, after playing **** for about 45 minutes. Then went back on the front foot and nearly won it. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
Why did we stop playing for most of the 2nd half, but fair play to the Palace keeper several great saves but these are the matches you need to win if you want to challenge at the top.
6 pts dropped when leading with the 15 mins to play. IMHO the following encapsulates the issue : <BBC> A chunk of Spurs' success this season has relied on opposing teams not taking their chances - that was never going to be sustainable. Joe, Cardiff Same as when he was at United. Jose seems to get the goal then sits back to defend the lead. Lots of late equalisers against United as well I remember. Tim </BBC>
They were there for the taking today but our insistence on sitting back when we were dominating play was just stupid. Poor tactics, poor defending and when chasing that late winner we didn’t even have another striker to call on from the bench. **** show all around. Was nice being top for a while I suppose.
Bit of a wrench to lose the two points there. Could argue it as a game of two halves or a game of two keepers. Lloris should do better for the goal and Guaita made a few cracking stops to keep Palace in the game. The lack of control in the second half compared to the first is very concerning and I expect Jose to look at it carefully because in the PL you can't get away with performances like that second 45 we just saw. When we turned up the heat again in the final 10 we looked like we'd have won the game if we'd pushed like that for longer. Could have done with a proactive change midway through the second half (rather than GLC for Tanguy which is like for like). Work to do, especially ahead of the midweek game.
2 points thrown away. We're not getting anywhere near winning the league if we're going to keep doing that ****.
It became a question of not would we score a second but when Palace would score theirs! Hoping Pool don't murder Fulham.
Tbh, the things I'd criticise Jose for actually seemed to work today and whilst Aurier was back to giving away stupid, cheap freekicks, it was understandable under the pressure Palace put us under and I'm not sure any of the players really played badly. I think we have to chalk that one up to Palace playing very well and their keeper making some great saves. This doesn't feel like the West Ham, West Brom and Brighton games where I thought we were really poor.
