Morning all. Very grey with some showers, but a stiff southerly wind means it is warmer. The autumn colours are still in the trees, but becoming less by the day as the wind sends the leaves flying around the lanes and fields. It is beginning to look as though our regulations are like to be tightened rather than loosened next week as despite the number of new daily infections dropping by a huge amount, they are still not low enough to open up more. I can see an 8.00 pm curfew on New Year's Eve being very popular. Have a good day everyone.
Afternoon all - I’ve had a bad day so far and am quietly banging my head against a wall. A while ago, I purchased a framed picture of The Vic from the Hornet shop - and for one reason or another hadn’t got around to hanging it until today. Step one - screw the sawtooth hanger to the back of the frame, which I did - only to find that the screws which came with it are too long. I now have the choice of hanging it with two screws sticking out the front, or with two holes showing. Not happy Gino… I’m also nearing the end of my tether with a Chinese company over something I bought from them on 1st October but am yet to receive. When I paid for it, via PayPal, there was no indication that the company was based in China - I only discovered that when they emailed me two weeks later to say that my package had been shipped, and included a link & reference to a Tracking website. ‘Shipped’ turned out to be a less than accurate description as my daily checks showed no movement until 27th October, when it finally left China by air. Three weeks later, it was apparently still in the air according to the Tracking site, so I emailed the company and asked them to investigate its whereabouts and how much longer I could expect to wait. Their response was to say that, once it had left their depot, it was out of their hands - and offered to sell me another, in the hope that it would be delivered more quickly. I’m still not sure if Google Translate gave me the correct translation for F*** O**. Fast forward another two weeks and it was still in the air - so I emailed again, this time asking for a refund of the purchase price within 48 hours or I would take my complaint to PayPal - which I did after receiving neither refund nor reply. PayPal’s idea of resolution is apparently to simply forward the complaint to the company and ask both parties to negotiate an amicable outcome. Two days later, the company replied to me via the PayPal resolution centre, simply stating that it had been shipped and providing a link to a different Tracking site - one that showed my package left China a week before the previous advice - and that it was still somewhere in mid-air. My less than amicable response was to ask as politely as I could manage why they had shipped twice on two different dates, how they expected me to find it if they wouldn’t and how much longer they expected me to wait before they would actually do anything. Their response this morning was to say that they had ‘initiated investigations’ with the freight company responsible. Caveat emptor - if anyone is considering purchasing something online from China, don’t bother. Unless you're prepared to wait for at least 72 days…
Ihad similar problems with face masks and hand gel in March April.. And even in Social media there are seemingly reputable companies offering good deals with no hint they are from China.. Research really well.. And even Amazon has this problem. Amazon are actually better than PayPal in paying up.. So i only but small items on pay pal now.. And never from China. Incidentally I am now in hospital having a range of tests so have been quiet on here over the last couple of days... Hoping they get to the bottom of it soon..
Hope that they can sort you out quickly Yorkie. With Leeds losing tonight that is one setback avoided.
Morning all. Grey with occasional showers, so another inside day today. Despite the lockdowns most of the towns and villages have their Christmas lights up and working. This does brighten up the winter evenings if you are out to see them. The suggestion is that next week we will have an 8.00 pm to 6.00 am curfew, so there will not many out to see the lights. This curfew will not apply to Christmas Eve, but will be in force for the New Year, so the usual get togethers that night will not legally take place. Oh well, it will end one day! Have a good day whatever you are doing, and let's hope that the hospital finds out what to do with Yorkie.
I bought some face masks in June with a 6 week delivery from China (ebay i think). The tracker disclosed that they were moving around China a week later and they were delivered to me just over a week after that. More than 3 weeks sooner than the promised delivery date. Very happy.
Thanks guys.... Iooking like I am here for the weekend We have finally settled in a flat in roundhay Leeds near the park. My wife is emptying the sheds today.. And we had booked slots at the tip. I am slightly wondering what she will be throwing out.. And i may never know!
Morning all. Grey with a few breaks in the cloud that lets the sun through every now and again. Agreed to catch up with some friends this morning via zoom. Allsorts of technical stops and starts this time, and some are wondering if the internet is being used so much that the systems are in a semi meltdown. As someone said, "It's nice to see the faces, but maybe not as good as sharing a cup of tea or glass of wine". Still good to see that all are remaining cheerful and making the best of strange times. Have a good day whatever you try.
Thank you.. I have just seen outside for the first time since admission.. My bed in a corner facing other beds.. No fun!
I hope they get you sorted Yorkie. Good of them to let you out. Just learned that a good mate whom I was Best Man to has got Covid. Can't say I'm not concerned. He's an undertaker so always at risk. He says he aches like he's played rugby nonstop for a week and sweats over night as if he's in a sauna. Had a bit of difficulty speaking on the phone. Not good.
Morning all. Just been into town for some bread as our machine is not filled on a Monday. When I arrived in town the council workmen were installing Santa on his sleigh into a mini forest created out of Christmas trees on the pathway outside the Marie. Far more coloured ribbons on the trees than lights, but that is common in France. It gives everywhere a bit of colour at this time of the year without increasing the electricity bill. Hope everyone is safe and well, and you have a good day.
Morning all. Still overcast but mild. The winter flowering jasmine is opening in the garden with its delicate yellow flowers. It didn't get cut back in the Spring and now there is a mass of it that will create a lovely picture when all the buds are open. Sometimes an out of control plant will tell you to leave it alone, but it can spoil other plants around it. Off to do the weekly shop now and see what offers are available in the cave. Have a good day whatever you are doing.
Morning all. Bright sunshine at the moment, plenty of blue sky and vapour trails across it. At long last I can go out without needing a piece of paper to say who I am, where I live, what time I left home and why I am out. Although I have always had it with me I have not been stopped over the last month and asked to produce it. It is a minor thing to do, yet for some reason seemed to become a chore. The latest restrictions mean that you cannot be away from home after 8.00 pm until 6.00 am. Not that it will bother many locally as the shutters are pulled tightly shut by 6.00 pm at this time of year. Hope you are feeling better Yorkie, and they have nailed down the problem. Watching Watford too often is known to have strange effects on people. Have a good day one and all.
