Typical England, played five, lost none, went out after goalless draws against Germany and Spain. No penalty shoot outs were required.

Not old enough to remember him but RIP anyhow. Death is inevitable but still very cruel.

That was a weird World Cup with the two group stages but probably had the most incident of any.

That Italian team probably marked the start of counter attacking football - Rossi was such a clinical finisher, fantastic to watch. Everyone was, as usual bigging-up Brazil and he took them apart.

The Italians had been playing counter attacking football well before then. First time I can remember seeing it was when watching Celtic beat Inter Milan in the European Cup Final in 1967 on the television. Inter scored early on and then it seemed to be non stop Celtic attacking against it seemed like a 15 man Inter defence but with the occasional counter attack by Inter which always felt dangerous. Happily as history tells us the fabulous Lisbon Lions prevailed with a winner late on. Have been a Celtic fan ever since.

In the first group of three matches, the Italians drew every game and iirc came in for some considerable criticism from their own press. Some great memories from that World Cup, Bryan Robson's goal after 27 seconds against France, the Russian goalie rooted to the spot following a Brazil wonder strike from Eder. Best of all though must be Marco Tardelli scoring against W Germany in the final and his subsequent celebration. Unforgettable.

Seems he was well liked by that Liverpool team that played under him. That's quite young. He's had heart problems for years tho.

    This is really ****ed up.

To be honest you not having seen Friday, is possibly the most disturbing thing I've seen in 2020.

You need to watch this very soon mate. The sequels are ok, but the first one is a classic movie.

Better teams, but I think the Brazil team of 82 had more innate ability. Holland were genuinely good teams filled with exceptional technicians and Cruyff's brilliance. Still very skillful players but not as many as the Brazil team.
