Paolo Rossi has passed away. Another 80s legend who just missed out on my top 10 of all time

Well I am remember him DPP.

    He was great in 1982.

I've come to express my sympathies too........

...though I'm not sure if it's for Paolo or you for the total lack of anyone joining in with you!!

All it shows is a lack of football knowledge on this forum as I presume no one else knows him which considering he's one of the greatest players ever is a shame.

I can understand your point on "celebs" but this was one of the greatest footballers ever on a football forum

I watched him beat Brazil 3-2 in 82. He had a great tournament coming on the back of a 2 year international ban. RIP Paolo Rossi.

I wouldn’t say one of the greatest footballers ever. In his era yes but not ever.

He beat my Brazilian team if I remember right. He was a great player and a fantastic goal scorer. He won Italy the World Cup in 1982.

    RIP

That Brazil team was possibly the most gifted team not to have won the tournament. Not the best team, as their defence was shocking, but rammed with so much ability and talent it was frightening.

A great game between the two which in all honesty I couldn’t see Brazil losing. The difference was Rossi, an out and out goal scorer of the highest calibre.

It was the tournament that nobody accept Rossi wanted to win. Brazil were the standout team, head and shoulders above everyone else, but other than them I'd say it was all incredibly equal with more teams than usual at a high standard.

1990 gets all the headlines as being England's nearly moment, but if it wasn't for Keegan missing an open goal with a header at the death against West Germany it could have changed from a tournament that is rarely talked about to the one that we still don't shut up about.

Edit: The header was against Spain. Even I have forgotten it <laugh>

Zico, Socrates, what a team. I think they hammered both Russia and Scotland in the group games.

Thanks for that. While aware of him I am a bit to young to remember him playing so enjoyed watching that.
