Fair enough their lad should not have had a chance of the shot, but a daisy cutter from that distance. He had time to walk across his line and bend down and pick the ball up. Having said that Mathews has done a lot worse.
Even the best experienced keepers let in very soft goals at times just the good ones don't do it as often an don't let it affect their game. As young keeper I wouldn't slate him for one poor goal especially when he played so well the rest of the game.
still think the ball hit a rut just before his arm stopped it ...look at the way it 'loops' into the net from a very low trajectory.
No idea. And nowt to do with the thread but your current avatar is an excellent read, some mighty fine cartooning going on there.
I would definitely keep him in as well as Diamond Inconsistency is the reason we are in this league again. We have players who can do something special but then go missing for a few weeks I would rather keep the younguns in and at least as fans we can understand for the blips they make. We are possibly in for a good turnover of players in January andI would play the players that are definitely gonna be here Hopefully at least one or even both of the keepers are gone along with Graham and a few others. A good freshen up will do us no harm
I don't contribute to this forum any longer, other than looking in every day....(family and health problems, within the last few years, etc) However, I'm a retired FA coach (amongst other things).....Although I didn't sit my full badge, I worked at Lilleshall for a spell in the early 90's, and during my studies of The Player Performance Stats Module..it was accepted that every 'match day' stat recorded for outfield players was, and still is, a little unfair when including the Goal Keeper stats within the overall post match/ team analysis. Why?.....simple - the overall average of minor mistakes each player makes over the 90 mins in every part of the playing field of play, is generally always cancelled out / ignored, immediately, due to the ongoing flow of play. In other words - A player may receive the MOM Award for overall contribution, including a high % of completed passes etc, yet the keeper lets in an arguably 50/50 save, and then because it looks like a howler, he is deemed the villain...yeah? He might have made only one mistake all match, yet he cost us the points. ....That said, we haven't seen a confident Keeper performance since Pickford....have we ?
Goalkeepers union - like it and agree totally! It does look an error from the one angle but it's an error by about 4 different players all in all
Been a few of them lately unfortunately. Not quite sure if Willis was the perfect foil for Wright but he has seen a huge dip in form. Seems to want to wrestle everyone at the moment.
