You do realize that there are many blind alleys in scientific research ? Determining those blind alleys allows research to look at other avenues. We need to eliminate blind alleys.
This is not to totally dismiss work done by Innova, which has played a part in moving in the right direction towards a solution. Their lateral flow test results have given invaluable feedback into the loop of research into a solution. It is invaluable input into the eventual solution I have no doubt. It is still an ongoing problem in epidemiology to solve this issue.
10 months ago would you have dismissed the effort, or are you playing the "hindsight is a wonderful thing" game?

I suppose that having gained my PhD f for developing an improved cancer diagnostic test and ending my career as a consultant for both Sanofi Pasteur and GSK on the introduction of the first widely used anti-cancer vaccines. I am fairly well aware of the issues and potential pitfalls affecting scientific development.

Well done, you'll be knighted some day. Maybe a Nobel prize ?
Might be useful for you to publish some "authoritative" evidence (peer reviewed publication) as to why you are decrying Innova's work and prove that they haven't reviewed the previous research, utilized or rejected it, and give a justifiable critique of their actual processes/conclusions, other than "we should have spent the money elsewhere."

A self cleaning film? Bloody puritans should teach self control, and leave people that enjoy dirty movies in peace.

makes you sound like a anti vaxxer which would mean you are ******ed
besides, the cold aka rhinovirus is a completely different strain
secondly, vaccines usually take years due to funding and testing procedures to say the least
the corona virus vaccine has had unprecedented (for a vaccine) funding, testing has being going on for months

Another example of how things have split into 2 with no middle ground. I guess most have missed the bit I posted about Cambridge Uni (?) and their respect or tolerate a different opinion debate.

Anyone questioning the accuracy of the test, the speed at which the vaccine has been developed, the lock down restrictions is instantly branded an anti vaccine loony. (Saying that there are some right loonies out there)

For ages we have been told it takes years and years to develop a new medicine, often up to 10 years. So forgive me if I am a little sceptical about one that has been released with such a glowing review after 10 months.

As to the tests, well every thing is based on the numbers but if the testing is not accurate then that makes a mockery of the whole lock down tier level things.

Given the demographic of the 1st wave of vaccines, I wonder if they'll be consistent with the data and define those who die as being 'with the vaccine'.

I only know what I've seen in the HDM, but as far as I'm aware, the mass testing at Hull Uni was set up late September and was not just for Hull Uni students, it was available to all and was still run through the NHS, so you had to book a test, just as you do at the Humber Bridge site.

The later one, in November, was a completely different one, set up inside the Uni and only for Hull Uni students who were travelling home for Christmas.

    Yeah

I think we're saying the same thing

My point was the Health Sec saying he was going to get quick turn around testing into London schools wasn't the same as what went on at Hull Uni. That was done to just extend the tests at the Humber Bridge really to areas to make it easier for people to get to. Same is done elsewhere and with mobile units too.

AstraZeneca has announced that will begin recruiting people aged 18 and over for trials combining the AstraZeneca and Oxford University vaccine with Russia's Sputnik V, produced by the Gamaleya Institute research facility in Moscow.

The aim is to see if this helps to boost people's immune response and improve protection from the virus.

The company told the BBC that the trials would be held in Russia, but it's not clear when they would start or how many people would be involved.

In a press release, AstraZeneca said: "Scientific collaboration with Gamaleya Research Institute is important to explore the potential of vaccine combinations unlocking synergies in protection and accessibility through a portfolio approach."

Interesting article from the Newcastle equivalent of the HDM.

They quote their Public Health bod saying that they do not expect to drop to tier 2, and their levels are lower than ours.

They also say that "Unlike pre-lockdown decisions around local Covid restrictions, local council leaders are not expected to have a say on what happens to their region – with the process dictated by the government."

There's a chance they'll only look at moving lower categories into higher ones and not reducing any of them, any new categorisation would only come into effect on Dec 19th and with restrictions being relaxed for Christmas, they might think there's little point in relaxing most places.
