It appears that old Leadboots has turned down the first contract offer. As he is in the last year of his contract and we spunked £2.6 Million (yes £2.6 Million!) on him what should the club do if he doesn't end up signing? Wait til January and get rid for at least a small fee or do we sit back and wait for him to leave in the summer like we did with Macca and Norris?

In the 3 seasons he's been here, lets be honest, he hasn't set the world alight and although he has finally started to put in a few good performances I reckon he owes us that much! Another one of Keane's transfer gems and to be honest if he doesn't sign a new deal we should get rid in January. JET could do a job sitting behind the 2 up front. The only contract I do want to see extended is Edwards believe it or not because he puts in 100% and has been asked to play in a unfamiliar position for the last year or so.

The only think I do hope is that the contract wrangling doesn't disrput the harmony in the team at a time when we are starting to play so well. If Leadboots comes out saying how much he loves playing for Ipswich but doesn't sign I will be bloody livid !

I blame that **** Cotterill, He is obviously tapping him now.

tbh, he is the weakest of the 4 central midfielders and by all accounts on a decent wedge as well. Get shot in January, use the money to bring in Andrews on a permenant basis and look around for a decent out of contract player. Also, strip him of the captaincy now, as we don't want to send out the wrong signals to the other players.

He can go and join Norris and Pompey for all I care but I don't want this situation to drag on! Its good to see old Norris doing so well down there! <laugh>

Poor management is partly to blame. Leadbitter needs to play further up the field because he's so crap at defending and tracking runners. Although saying that he's hardly Lionel Messi when it comes to attacking. I agree that JET could do a job in that position and is a better player. Bye Leadders!

Has done well in possibly 5 appearances in a Town shirt. The fact that we havent sued him under the trades description act is fairly amazing as he sure as hell hasnt been a midfield player for most of his Town career. If he can keep up his performances of the last few games I wouldnt be bothered if he stay but I honestly wouldnt care if he left and would probably instantly forget him.
Im more annoyed with the fact we kick the like's Garvan & Trotter out of the door!

Garvan are you sure?? he was ok when he was seventeen but never improved much like Bowditch, Trotter should have been kept admittedly. And i think that Leadbitter has done alright over the past few seasons in a weak side i think he has been one of the better players, i'll be happy if he signs a new contract.

Garvan was a luxury player, I think he would have fitted in very well at the top of the diamond that we play now, not really tracking back so much, but get him on the ball and he could create things. Trotter again would have been very good in this formation aswell, but a bit further back doing a lot of the running and tackling.

Weighty, Leadtwat i presume is hankering for payrise considering he is captain so being one of the highest wage earners at the moment you would probably looking at paying about 20 to 25k per week plus looking for at least 3 years on the contract perhaps more, does that sound good business for somebody who can only really perform in a certain position within a certain formation!

£2.6 Million is a heck of a lot of money to pay for just 5 good performances! <yikes>

Just like the £2 Million spunked on Norris!

On balance I would get rid <ok>

Garvan was a lazy player that showed promise at an early age but failed to improve.

Its not for me to worry about what players are paid its what they do on the pitch that concerns me and i think that Leadbitter has always given 100%(thats the most you can give its not the Xfactor) and apart from a few games earlier this season i think he has always put in decent performances.

On another note is it not said "never take the first offer"?????

Dont forget the wages we spent on the pair of them aswell. Im guessing that is the best part of £6 wasted on the pair of them!

I know Tractorbhoy it just defies all belief!

Just goes to show how much we have had to pay over the last few years due to porr management from both Jimbo and Keane! <steam>

I think thats the scary part of it, I reckon those 2 wasted at least 15 million between them!

And just compare that to Big Fat Joe who wasn't given the £100K that Stoke were asking for Ricardo Fuller!

Im sorry WCP but if you can honestly say Leadbitter gives 100% every game then I am going to phone you a shrink. He either doesnt put in 100% or he is a million miles out of his depth playing in the championship. How many times over the last few seasons has his dithering or poor passing lead to opposing goals? Prime example being the back pass against Peterborough. I dont expect everything to work perfectly but that was definately lax to say the least. 5 decent performances does not equate to either captain material or pay rise. If he can keep up current form for the next few months then I can see an argument for him staying.

I thought it was "don't **** on your own doorstep"

I just think that Leadbitter is getting alot of stick all of a sudden and i don't think its really justified.

Just because someone has said they think he has had 5 good performances does not mean that its a fact.

Not being funny, but 5 is being generous!

When you think about how much his money was wasted by Coco & the Dark Lord, you can only applaud ME contribution to the club and his loyalty to the cause!
